HomeMy WebLinkAboutArt In Public Places Board - Minutes - 12/20/2000Cult, Library and Recreational Serss Lincoln Center City of Fort Collins MEMBERS PRESENT: Libby Dale, Alan Howe, Jane Liska-Smith, Roger Sherman Ann Carr MEMBERS ABSENT: Deanna Gram STAFF PRESENT: Ellen Martin, Mark Breimhorst, Libby Colbert Call to order 3:35 p.m. — Mr. Sherman Consideration of the Minutes Mr. Howe moved to approve the minutes of the November meeting Ms. Dale seconded Unanimously approved Memorial Guidelines Staff presented a working draft of the proposed Memorial Guidelines as directed by City Council. The City's Parks Department will also review the Guidelines. The Board asked that the selection committee include people from the concerned area. The Board also suggested that staff market the guidelines on the web and other appropriate locations. It was said that maintenance costs would need to be further considered. The Board also wants to ensure that the memorial catalogue is open to all artists, offers a vast selection if items, and includes a variety of artists' works. IV. Annual Report Ms. Martin distributed a draft of the Annual Report that was prepared by staff. It summarized all Board and staff activities of year 2000 including a background of the program, completed and pending projects, special and 417 West Magnolia • Fort Collins, CO 80521-2646 • (970) 221-6705 • FAX (970) 484-0424 community outreach projects, and maintenance projects. The Board gave input regarding changes to the draft. V. Outreach exhibition Staff reported on a meeting of the Education subcommittee to organize an outreach exhibit during Youth Arts Month in March. The intent of the exhibit will be to showcase the APP program and exhibit the evolution of its projects. The planned exhibit space is the Lobby Gallery. There was a lengthy discussion about options for the exhibit. The following items were discussed as inclusions in the exhibit:; large photos of the projects, a map indicating locations of all completed and pending projects, models/maquettes of projects (watermelon slice, paw prints, bronze paver, etc.), architectural drawings, videos (Jim Green's video), and elementlitems for attendees to interact with. There was also a discussion about arranging for an artist, such as Rafe Ropek, to give a workshop to local students about Art in Public Places projects. This would serve as a prelude to the exhibit. It was suggested that the exhibit concentrate on children and any written materials/descriptions be brief and concise. One suggestion was that children could be involved in the fabrication of pieces for the memorial catalogue. VI. Staff Report: Staff distributed a summary of staff activities since November's Board meeting. There was discussion about outreach to the DBA and DDA and the need to share information on the APP program. VI.
