Memorial Guidelines
Staff presented a working draft of the proposed Memorial Guidelines as
directed by City Council. The City's Parks Department will also review the
Guidelines. The Board asked that the selection committee include people from the
concerned area. The Board also suggested that staff market the guidelines on the
web and other appropriate locations. It was said that maintenance costs would
need to be further considered. The Board also wants to ensure that the memorial
catalogue is open to all artists, offers a vast selection if items, and includes a variety
of artists' works.
IV. Annual Report
Ms. Martin distributed a draft of the Annual Report that was prepared by
staff. It summarized all Board and staff activities of year 2000 including a

community outreach projects, and maintenance projects. The Board gave input
regarding changes to the draft.
V. Outreach exhibition
Staff reported on a meeting of the Education subcommittee to organize an
outreach exhibit during Youth Arts Month in March. The intent of the exhibit will be
to showcase the APP program and exhibit the evolution of its projects. The
planned exhibit space is the Lobby Gallery.
There was a lengthy discussion about options for the exhibit. The following
items were discussed as inclusions in the exhibit:; large photos of the projects, a
map indicating locations of all completed and pending projects, models/maquettes
of projects (watermelon slice, paw prints, bronze paver, etc.), architectural
drawings, videos (Jim Green's video), and elementlitems for attendees to interact
with.
There was also a discussion about arranging for an artist, such as Rafe
Ropek, to give a workshop to local students about Art in Public Places projects.
This would serve as a prelude to the exhibit. It was suggested that the exhibit
concentrate on children and any written materials/descriptions be brief and concise.
One suggestion was that children could be involved in the fabrication of
pieces for the memorial catalogue.
VI. Staff Report:
Staff distributed a summary of staff activities since November's Board
meeting. There was discussion about outreach to the DBA and DDA and the need
to share information on the APP program.
