HomeMy WebLinkAboutWomens Commission - Minutes - 04/18/1988i 0 c COMMISSION ON STATUS OF WOMEN Minutes of April 18, 1988 Present: Kay Short, Linda Cowan, Alma Vigo -Morales, Valerie Mauksch, Jim Banning, Liza Daly, Beth Ann Smith, Martha Denney, Ginny Webster, Carole Wallace, Cindy Hoff, Janet Abbey Absent: Jacque Strickland, Mary Jo McDermott Staff: Ann Turnquist The meeting was called to order by Cindy Hoff, chairwoman, at 7:05 p.m. n Minutes Committee Reports: Networking Basic Needs es, etc. Minutes of April 4, 1988 approved as read. Kay Short reported that the community meeting will be held Thursday, May 26, in City Council Chambers at 7:00 p.m. A facilitator is being sought, suggestions will be appreciated. A letter of invitation will be sent out to local organizations within the next week. I The brochure is in progress - target date for completion is May 26. Womens/Pace is booked through May. Childcare Coalition and Women's Center are two of the groups writing articles. Requests for ideas and writers made. Liza Daly reported that the Housing Authority will be asking the City Council to waive development fees on Housing Authority projects on May 3. The Basic Needs Committee will write a letter in support of this request, ful- filling recommendation #22 of the Task Force Report. The Human Relations Commission will also be working with the Commission on this. Housing Authority would like us to co- sponsor a public hearing on Housing issues which is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 27. Colorado Women's Agenda and Larico Human Development are also co -sponsoring. Liza will draft the letter for the May 3 Council Packet. Liza will contact David Herrera to inform him of our support. • Page 2 Basic Needs I The committee will be having a joint cont'd. I 1 Page 3 Discussion Items: Election of Chair Dates of July meetings. Other Business: Boards and Commissions Review Colorado Women's Studies Conference - May 6-7. Nominating Committee will come up with candidates for election at next meeting, May 2. Valerie and Jacque will be on this committee. Decided to meet on July 18, and hold no meetings in August. We will continue to receive packets every 2 weeks. Reviewed and discussed memo. Beth Ann is interested in attending. Give Valerie a call with your input. Interested and/or concerned members will attend Council meeting on May 3. Ann will check if the City can help to cover Beth Ann's costs. Meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m. Secretary for the May 2 meeting will be Martha Denney.
