COMMISSION ON STATUS OF WOMEN
Minutes of June 6, 1988
Present: Carole Wallace, Mary Jo McDermott, Beth Ann Smith, Kay Short,
Cindy Hoff, Ginny Webster, Jacque Strickland, Janet Abbey,
Martha Denney, Jim Banning, Valarie Mauksch.
Absent: Linda Cowan, Alma Vigo Morales.
Staff: Mike Powers, Ann Turnquist
Council Liaison: Larry Estrada
The meeting was called to order by Valarie Mauksch, chairwoman, at 7:00 p.m.

Ann Turnquist reported that Council has

An idea was suggested that the groups/
agencies could focus on one main issue
per year.
Approximately 25 agencies were
represented by 30+ people. Martha
Denney suggested a follow-up letter be
sent to the groups represented.
Another suggestion was for a liaison
from CSU and Poudre R-1 to sit on the
Commission.
Karen Wedge suggested that CSW meet
with Poudre R-1 re: impact of budget
cuts on Women's studies and/or those
being displaced.
A number of the agencies represented
had scholarships/grants available for
women continuing their education.
Cindy Hoff reported that Ed Stoner
called to clarify the Council's charge
to the CSW following the recommendation
made by the sub -committee on the Boards
and Commissions. There is no new
charge.
Larry Estrada suggested some discussion
be devoted to more communication with
HRC.
It was asked that we
meet again quarterly.
Networking committee
will make recommenda-
tions for future
action. Possibly
sponsor a yearly
public forum.
This will be a future
agenda item.
Jim will investigate
the possibility of -a
CSU student evaluate
the impact of the
Poudre R-1 budget cuts
on Women in the
community.
Kay Short will
investigate a list of
available scholarships
and make available to
the Fort Collins
Public Library as part
of the Women's
Collection.
Ann Turnquist will
include Council
agendas in our packets
Larry, Mike and Ann
will strive to keep
us better informed.
"Council update" will
be a regular part of
the agenda.
Ann will include HRC
minutes in packets.

Business.
Legal/government reported that the
Domestic Violence Intervention Project
is accepting letters for individuals to
be seated on its Board as at -large
members.
Due to the possible economic impact of
the Poudre R-1 cutbacks. Carole Wallace
requested that PR-1 supply a list of
positions, whether held by men or women
and what their salaries are.
Heaberline case: Liza Daly contacted
the Coloradoan re: status.
Liza Daly requested clarification of
process to be used for issuance of
"emergency letters."
June 20th meeting will be a potluck
at 6:30, location to be announced.
Martha Denney volunteered to do a
cross-cultural workshop for the
Commission at a later date.
Next formal meeting July 18. No
meetings will be held in August.
Mary Jo McDermott and
Beth Ann Smith will
submit a letter of
appreciation.
Carole Wallace will
communicate with Liza
Daly, MaryJo McDermott
and Mike Powers in
drafting a letter.
Liza Daly, Alma Vigo -
Morales, and Jacque

contacted and will in
turn contact committee
chairs.
Liza Daly will extend
an invitation to Loren
Maxey. Jacque
Strickland will check
with Val re: her house
or Martha's. Invita-
tion extended to
families of CSW
members.

dessert, also own
service and beverage.
