The meeting was held at the Collindale Club house.
The meeting was called to order by the President, Gary Garwood.
Mr. Garwood read a letter received by all Board Members from the City
Council asking members to evaluate the purpose and effectiveness of the Golf
board. The ordinance establishing the Golf Board was read for the benefit
of new members. Members approved the duties of the Golf Board and feel that
they are being actively and effeciently performed by the members of the Golf
Board. Members also believe the Golf board is a needed and beneficial part
of the City government, that the Fort Collins golf courses should be controlled
by golfers who are closely related to and understand the problems of the
courses and the obligations of the courses to the City of Fort Collins. A
letter containing these decisions will be sent to the City Council by Gary
Garwood on behalf of all the Golf Board members.
B. R. Phillips said that although the golf courses could be managed
without the Golf Board, he was in favor of the Board and it made his job easier.
Members feel that the Golf Board should receive notification of all
City Council meetings having golf related items on the agenda.
H. R. Phillips gave all members copies of the minutes of the previous
Board meeting. The minutes were approved as presented.
Tom Peck said the track team from C.S.U. had been running at City Park
Nine. This is allowed at Collindale because of the wide fairways, but not
at City Park Nine due to the safety factors involved. Neil Johnson said
cross-country skiers had been using the Collindale Golf Course. H. R. Phillips
said skiers are allowed to use all City Parks, but not the golf courses
because of the damage which may occur to the courses, especially the greens.
Tom Peck asked permission to hold a two day tournament to be scheduled
around other golfing events in this area. The tournament is also to be ap-
proved by the Colorado Golf Association. The city would receive income from
the entry fees of the tournament. Stu Case moved that permission be granted
to Tom Peck to plan the tournament. It was seconded by Bud Crandall and passed.
bill Metier asked permission to raise money for a chipping green for
Collindale by having a Super Bowl Party with donations to be used for this
purpose. Names of doners would appear on a plague. Approval of this project
was given by the board members. Bill also asked permission to turn the unused
cloak room into badly needed storage space. Permission was given.
The meeting was adjourned.
