Problem areas in child, care particularly in Larimer county are insufficient amount of care providers for infants, limited non traditional care in evenings etc., and quality of care. Shared that a child's development in the first 3-6 years is mainly in the area of social interactions and these experiences impact the development of their brain. Neglected children have been shown to have smaller brains. Most of the money spent on children is spent after the age of 5, though most of the development happens by the age of 6. Talked about various groups in the area working on issues related to children and mentioned that October 5, 1998 at 8:30 a.m. is a meeting of the Early Childhood Council. This is a self nominating group. Meet once a month for 3 '/z hours. Linda stressed that in order for any woman to achieve a level of successful economic status they need to have quality childcare. Parents are very committed to their kids no matter what their economic level, yet they are treated as though they are not and are not given the resources they need. People individually care about their own kids, but overall they don't care for other peoples kids. There is the attitude that it is an individuals problem not a societal problem, however it is a societal problem. All services at Women's Center are open to everyone in the County regardless of income. Definite need for subsidizing of child care. Suggested the City can put in some money toward subsidizing so there can be more support for families. Develop programming for local support. VL Business A.
