October 19, 1998

I. Call to order: Meeting was called to order 6:10.
U. Minutes: Approved at written.
III. Review Agenda
IV. Announcements:
A. Diane Gregg announced October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and
passed around information on various events going on this month. Friday
evening October 23, 1998 6-7p.m. is the candle light vigil. Talked about the
cycles of violence throughout the various times of years.
B. Laurie announced that Marjorie McTaggart called and she is working with a
group of women to plan an event highlighting senior women to take place
October 1999. She is looking for someone from the Commission to help with
the planning of this event. Marjoire also called JoAnn. It will be called the
Older Women's Conference. They are meeting Monday November 9, 1998 at
1:00 at the Senior Center. The group is working on a mission statement.
Marjorie's number is 482-6650. Susan Crowe and Bobbie Gonzales may help
out with this.
C. Laurie announced an opportunity for someone on the Commission to attend a
meeting put on by Poudre Health Services District on health related issues in
the community. The sessions will be November 3' and 4. Lena Sunthankar
will attend one of these sessions.
D. Lynne announced that we are listed in the Women's Resource Guide which
came out in the Coloradoan. Need to get them update and current
information.
E. Upcoming presentations for Women's Board of Realtors November 4, at noon
at Caroline's Cuisine. Will focus on Housing and Income and touch on other
areas. Also November 12, 11:30 at Catholic Charities Mission on Linden
between Vine and Pine Street. Also Project Self Sufficiency November 17 at
8:45. Mason Street.
F. Mail was passed around.
V. Business Items
A. Marketing Committee Report: Danielle. Marketing committee met and divided
up responsibilities for contacting various experts. Danielle also has complied a
master list of each section and what has happened so far and will leave it with
Laurie. Still need feedback from experts on 6 sections. Need rough drafts on
health and mental health, income and welfare. The Commission as a whole will
also need to review the entire document. It needs to be formatted, documents put
in and proofread. Discussed our need for a timeline at this point and the need to
get it to writers. Danielle hopes that each marketing committee member will
follow up with the writers and get the information they need, then review the
information. Ask experts to provide feedback in written format to Doreen. Also
need to get the study formatted and to Frontier Printing for printing camera ready.
Nancy will check back with the printer and let them know our goal to get it to
them by mid -December.
B. Upcoming Elections: JoAnn opened the floor for members to discuss the issues
related to the upcoming elections. Talked about the things going on in different
neighborhoods and different businesses in Fort Collins. Discussed ordinances 21
and 22 and issues 13 and 14 dealing with Hog Farming. Also discussed the
nominees for Sheriff.
C. November 16, 1998 retreat will be held at the Edward's House from 5:00-9:00.
Menu was passed around to decide on the food. Danielle has retained a
facilitator, Jody Donovan for the meeting. Focus will be on members vision for
the Commission and the work they would like to see being done by the
Commission as well as team building.
