I. Bonding Exercise: The meeting was opened by a bonding exercise lead
by Janet Abbey. Ginny Webster volunteered to lead the bonding exercise for
the next meeting.
II. Cindy Hoff lead a review of the expectations developed at the
September 14th retreat.
III. Minutes of the August 17th meeting were approved with the correction
that Jacque Strickland was not present at the meeting. Several spelling
errors of names were corrected.
IV. Ethics Discussion: Wendy Williams distributed material related to
the issues of ethics and conflict of interest. The Commission was reminded
of the importance of these issues. In the course of the discussion, the
question of endorsements was raised. The Commission agreed to continue its
current policy of discussing requested endorsements on an individual basis.
The discussion underlined the importance of keeping Council informed of
community groups and issues relating to the status of women in the
community.

V. New Member Questions: No questions were asked. Martha Denney
indicated she would be raising a question at a later time.
VI. Guest: Vicki Bailey, counselor at Voc-Tech. Center, shared her
thoughts and a sample video tape from the program series "Concerning
Women". Discussion followed concerning support for the videos, the
localization of the resource material, and mechanisms for reaching various
groups within the community. The Community Outreach committee will
continue discussions and make recommendations. Wendy Williams was given
support to proceed with the idea of making the series available on the
City's cable channel. Alma Vigo -Morales and Kay Short volunteered to work
on the project with the Community Outreach committee.
VII. Committee Selection: Each committee was discussed. Agreement was
reached that the Economic Development Committee and the Legal/Government
Committee would be combined to form the Economic/Legal/Government
Committee. The current committee structure and membership is as follows:

VIII. Vice Chair: Valerie Mauksch was selected as Vice Chair.
IX. Affirmative Action Plan: Mike Powers gave a brief overview of the
plan. After some discussion, the Economic/Legal/Government Committee
agreed to review the document and report back at the October 5th meeting.
Members were encouraged to "call in" their questions, concerns, and issues
to a committee member or to Wendy Williams.
X. Zonta: Carol Wallace requested approval to share the Commission's
workplan with Zonta in order to better inform them of the Commission's
activities and programs. The request was supported by the Commission.
Other avenues of communication were also discussed.
