Discussion: 1994 meeting were approved as There was a general discussion regarding the upcoming study about possible processes for getting involvement from the community and other interested organizations. Gina suggested we consider using an approach such as either the one used by the City Planning Department (reference Greg Byrne as a good contact) for community dialogue and focus groups, or the one used by Steve VanderMeer for the same purpose. Other ideas discussed were having a special "kick off," such as possible holding a press conference to draw attention to our study, and using a format such as the one done by the Air Quality Commission as a means to gain input -- that commission utilized a mailing list to gain information through at "listening log" which they aggregated and then summarized back -to the respondents to verify. Audrey asked Gina to speculate on how the Council is likely to view our study and whether they are likely to have a receptive ear to our recommendations and findings. Gina responded that government (in this case, the Council) is limited in what it can do, but recommended that it may be useful for us to send regular memos and updates to the Council so that they can follow our progress and offer any feedback they may have. Discussion turned to the topic of funding for the study and the specifics of how much money will be provided, when will it be available to us, and what is the mechanism for accessing it. Audrey requested a written letter to the Commission nroviding this information. Sharon will obtain this letter. Presentation: Mary Faegan Bates then spoke about the Convention On The Elimination Of All Forms Of Discrimination Against Women and requested our support in spreading the word for this "Bill of Rights of Women." Handouts are included which fully explain the issue. Presentation: Connie Jaime-Lujon, representing the Women's Center spoke about their programs, and about their interests relative to our study. She felt our study would be useful for human services folks and for publicizing the status and issues of women. Connie also talked about possible roles they could play, such as providing data. child care, or health education. Following these presentations discussion continued within the Commission regarding the study. It was determined we need a plan to proceed with the study, a plan which specifies the strategies and objectives of the study. Audrey, Doreen and Carolyn will meet before our next meeting to draft a plan for the conducting the study. A round table discussion also focused on the roles and the amount of time which would be required from the Commission members in completing the study. Each individual estimated the time commitment which they felt they could potentially make and any particular areas of interest in which they would like to focus their efforts. It was discussed that very soon we need to identify the individual(s) who will be interns to work on the study. A variety of possible resources for securing this assistance were discussed and will be followed -up to obtain more information. It was determined that we need to more specifically identify our philosophical approach and charter of our study in order to be able to best select this individual(s). New Business: JoAnn Ginal offered and requested our support to attend two upcoming conferences related to women's health. Support was agreed upon and Sharon will complete the registration logistics and confirm for JoAnn Adi ours
