WORK PLAN - 2006
VISION: The Fort Collins Cultural Resources Board envisions a community where art,
music, performances and the stories of its people enhance the quality of life for all
residents and visitors.
MISSION: The mission of the Fort Collins Cultural Resources Board is to advise City
Council on cultural issues for the greater good of the Fort Collins community.
Cultural resources are defined as intellectual and artistic achievements or
expressions, including customs and civilizations of a particular time or people, all
of which stimulate community potential and pride.
OVERARCHING GOAL (OAG) -- 2006
The Cultural Resources Board will serve as a catalyst in making Fort Collins
a cultural center and destination.
STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE THE OVERARCHING GOAL
1. COMMON VISION: CITY COUNCIL & CULTURAL GROUPS
Serve as a catalyst for the development of a common vision to achieve the OAG by
working with: Council, staff, Downtown Development Authority, Downtown Business
Association, Arts Alive, Convention and Visitors Bureau, SCFD group, and other
boards.
• Work closely with CRB's City Council liaison to establish an understanding of
Council vision.
• Serve as a catalyst to facilitate meetings with and among the groups to explore and
develop a common vision
• Facilitate the development of a comprehensive document to state 5(?) year plans of
the active cultural groups.
• Seek representation to such groups and projects as DDA's Cultural Neighborhood,
SCFD, Library District, Fort Collins Museum / Discovery Science Center Partnership,
Lincoln Center renovation.
• Build relationships with other cultural groups.
o Serve on boards
• Establish the need for an arts and culture facilitating organization or board to serve as
an arts council. Serve as a catalyst for its creation.

• Advise City Council on specific issues regarding the Museum and Lincoln Center.
2. AWARENESS OF CULTURAL IMPACT
Enhance regional awareness of arts and cultural events and activities.
• Facilitate development of a comprehensive, accessible cultural calendar.
• Organize Arts and Humanities Month.
o Building on foundation of two years, explore additional activities.
• Enhance the CRB presence on the City's website.
• Establish a Mayor's Community Award for the Arts in Fort Collins.
• Serve as a catalyst to bring about regional awareness of Fort Collins' cultural
offerings.
3. RESOURCES: USE & DEVELOPMENT
Use and grow resources available to the Board to forward the OAG.
• Administer Fort Fund.
o Funding Session - January
o Funding Session - April
o Funding Session - June
• Work with the Convention and Visitors Bureau when making recommendations
for funding from the Tourism Account.
• Continue review and revision of Fort Fund guidelines and procedures.
• Support initiatives that will enhance revenue for cultural facilities and events.
For example: Scientific and Cultural Funding District, seat tax, an increase in the
City lodging tax, Cultural Plan.
• Serve as a catalyst to leverage, or have leveraged, current funds supporting Fort
Collins cultural offerings.
4. NETWORKING OF CULTURAL GROUPS
Provide networking opportunities for the exchange of ideas and resources.
Using the directory assembled for Arts & Humanities Month, serve as a catalyst to
encourage such groups to work together.
Provide liaisons to the appropriate groups to serve as a catalyst in the development
and awareness of arts and culture in Fort Collins. Some possible groups include
Art in Public Places Board -- Currently have a liaison.
Convention and Visitors Bureau-- Currently have a liaison.
Museum Advisory Council. -- Currently have a liaison.
Arts Alive
The Cultural Committee
Downtown Development Authority
Downtown Business Association
