Minutes:
• After dinner went around the table and each member introduced themselves and talked a bit
about their connection with the commission and what they wanted to gain from this evening.
After introductions Rena summarized by stating she saw that many of the comments related
to the study and asked the group if they wanted to begin by looking at the study and do the
team building exercises at the latter part of the evening. There was no objection to this, so
the group moved right into strategic work planning regarding the study.
• Several questions were presented regarding the study. There was a request for some
background information and history of the study, inquiry into looking at the actual survey
questions, the results and information included in the findings. Audrey passed out a
summary of the report as it stands now. It was agreed that the survey questions, the results
binder and the focus group information would be made available to new members to review
at the Human Rights Office 405 Canyon Avenue after October 27, 1997,
• Moved into looking at the marketing for the study. The following suggestions were
presented:
■ Create one presentation so that everyone is consistent in what they are presenting.
■ Brainstorm possible questions and answers to those questions beforehand.
■ Have general guidelines for presentation.
■ Work with City Council in an advisory capacity. Present them with hard evidence.
11 Create several very specific recommendations.
■ Work to impact social change.
■ Get minutes and agendas for various boards and commissions.
■ Evaluate the status of women employed by the City, County, PRl
■ Invite ourselves to meetings. Each member list out 4-5 organizations or groups to
present to. Ask them where they are willing to work on issues presented.
■ Have a presentation given at the next Commission meeting.
■ Use pairs and mentors to make sure everyone is well trained on presentations.
• Subcommittees were setup and members signed up for different groups.

Subcommittees are to come up with a function statement. Include:
■ Pick several specific recommendations to focus on
■ Create actions steps
■ Act as a resource to various groups related to topic area
■ Track contacts using data form
Meeting was ended a bit before 9:00 p.m. The focus was entirely on the work plan and the study. No time was
left for Team Building.
Some things to consider before the November Meeting:
• How information from Chris Kneeland fits into the work of the Commission.
