The meeting convened at 6:05 p.m. Chairman Johnson stated
that the purpose of the meeting was to review in the field the
elements of the Draft Harmony Corridor Plan relating to the area
known as the Harmony Gateway. Planning Director Tom Peterson
provided a brief summary of the planning process used to develop
the plan and the three alternatives included in the draft plan:
1) Full development of the Gateway area; 2) Acquisition of the
entire area for open space purposes; and 3) Development of the area
in a way that preserves significant open space areas and resource
values. Bob Wilkinson discussed the wetlands, riparian habitat,
and other natural resource values of the area and outlined the
location of these areas on an aerial photograph.
The Board departed from the Environmental Learning Center and
travelled to three locations within the Harmony Gateway study area
to review site conditions. At each stop, members identified and
discussed significant natural resource and open space values of the
area. At the final stop the Board reviewed its former discussions
on the area. It was agreed that the Board would maintain its
position to recommend that the Planning and Zoning Board vigorously
explore opportunities for acquisition and protection of the Gateway
area. The Land Use Committee was assigned the task of finalizing
a letter to the Planning and Zoning Board.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:15 p.m.
