COORDINATING COMMISSION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
October 12, 1977
The regular meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens was held on
Wednesday, October 12, 1977 in the City Council Chambers at 2:30 P.M. The meeting
was called to order at 2:40 P.M. by Chairman Ed Chilcott.

The minutes of the September 14, 1977 meeting were approved as amended. The
August 10, 1977 minutes were approved as amended in the September 14, 1977 minutes.
The City Council needs a choice of -possible applicants for the Senior Citizens
Commission for the future. Several -candidate names -are needed and -will be reviewed.
with a set criteria.
Darryl Farrington handed out a report Re: Property Taxation -of Senior Citizens.
He recommended starting with Item 1, 2, and then 3, a step at a time. Esther
Stratton made the motion that the Senior CitizensCommissionauthorize a subcommittee
to work on the three points in the handout. Ed *tartin seconded the motion.
A letter from Noreen O'Rourke requesting support was read. If we endorse Well -Oldsters
then it appears that we do not support other similar agencies. There are several
agencies which are applying for grant money. It was recommended that we as a
Commission do not endorse any agency at this time. John McGraw was asked to write
a letter to Noreen O'Rourke concerning this point.
New Business: Legal Services for the elderly - not legal aid. Darryl Farrington
was asked to give a status report on Legal Services at our next meeting.
The November 9, 1977 meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens will
be held in the City Council Chambers at 2:30 P.M.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:50 P.M.

RE: Property Taxation of Senior Citizens
Having heard and considered the request of the Commission in
open session, the Council hereby authorizes the Senior Citizens' Coordinating
Commission to undertake the following activities:
1. Establish contacts and working relationships with other
organizations and groups within Colorado that share the goal of achieving the
institution of appropriate property tax measures regarding senior citizens.
2. Obtain and analyze information and programs available from other
states relative to property taxation of senior citizens.
3. Assist in the development of senior citizens property tax
proposals designed for implementation at the state, county and special
district levels, and subject to approval by the Council, to work toward
the implementation of such proposals.
In addition to the foregoing authorization, the Commission is
directed to furnish periodic general reports to the Council and to report
significant developments as they occur.
