COORDINATING COMMISSION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
January 11, 1978
The regular meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens was
held on Wednesday, January 11, 1978 in the City Council Chambers at
2:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order at 2:35 P.M. by Chairman
Ed Chilcott.

The minutes of the December 14, 1977 meeting were approved as written. Role
call was made and introduction of three new members was made: -1) Chet Hommon;-
2) Eleanor Hoag; and 3) Louie LaRoche.
Gene'Reisdorff of -the Division of Services for. the Aging, :Dept —of Social, -.
Services in Denver explained the philosophy.of_his department -with -the
members of the Coordinating Commission for Senior C tizens�and about' -legal
services for the elderly. He explained the programgoingon-in Denver and
Boulder and also told us of a pilot project in Denver - to see if the quality
of life in a nursing home can be improved. Boulder has a sliding fee scale for
Legal Services. Boulder and Denver have a Wills panel which costs $25 and has
a rotating panel of attorneys. On February 6 and 7 Gene's office is having a
training program for those who work in the legal area,in Grand Junction. The
topics to be covered are: Social Security, Supplemental Security Income,
Medicare, and Food Stamps.
Mabel Kenney, Chairman of the Membership Committee, introduced three new
members of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens. Chet Hommon is
not a new member and has served on the Commission before.

The report on Property Tax Easement to the State Level of Government was made
by Ed Chilcott. He is going to Denver February 7 to speak with the legislature.
February 7 is Senior Citizens Day.
The appointment of a committee to investigate if Choice Care's Health Program
is relevant to the Senior Citizen is postponed until next month.
Update on Natural Gas Rebate: Nothing has been heard concerning this.
Ed Chilcott will also speak to the legislature about this when he is in
Denver February 7.
The February 8, 1978 meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens
will be held in the City Council Chambers at 2:30 P.M.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 P.M.

Free lecal services are now available to ,the
lobe -income elderly of harirer County. Colorado
rural Legal Services (MO) is offering
counsling services end assistance in conjunction
