The meeting was called to order by our acting chairperson, Ruby Lynch. Roll was called by Paula FIakowsky, Vice Chairman. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Dave Carvil, representing CHOICE, (Citizen Held options for Tnt(,lligent Choices in Energy) gave a presentation of available alternatives for increased energy efficient:. Sharon Held was introducen from Fart Cnllins Light and Power. She dill be available to yive help and information on energy efficiency to Senior Citizens at 221-n7nn. Ways were discussed in which Senior Citizens could he made aware of CHOICE. Dave Carvil suggested that members of this board act as contact poeple and trainers. There was some discussion on the fear that many older people have regarding strangers entering their homes. Letters of introduction, planning ahead with explanations, public service announcements on the radio, and using churches as a liaison were some of the ways suggested for overcoming this fear. Information publicizing CHOICE could he handled through familiar newsletters such as RSVP, The Greening Leaf, or the local newspapers. Flyers could he sent in rebate checks and leaflets handed out, door to door. When the board was asked hy nave Carvil if they would support the CHOICE program, their response seemed positive. The board advised Dave Carvil and Sharon Held to reprint the hrochures using larger print. Sharon Held left pamphlets for the board to review and reiterated the fact that workshops were available through Fort Collins Light and Power. Moving on the next item on the agenda, Paula Makowsky gave her report from the Senior Board Task Force. She stressed the need for immediate care for patients just released from the hospital. Finding help for Senior Citizens until they recuperate was discussed at length and many valid suggestions were presented. Yetta pnllin made a motion that this board set. up a task force to deal with Senior health issues. Norman Wynn seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously. Members of the committee for Senior Health issues will incl,ide: Joe Campanella Ruby Lynch Paula Makowsky Plartha Bartlett, Suzanne Jarboe -Simpson Before the next meeting, they will be asked to examine the pamphlet, Guide to Services, put out by the Office on Aging, and look into the distrihution process of this pamphlet. It was decided that the committea will wnrk uD nhjectives, make up an applications form, and decide how the applicants for the committee can be screened. Ed Chilcott gave his report on the need for an insurancN liability limit. Various acronyms were discussed for this group. Norman liynn Larry Rickert. !Ii1dred IrnoId Suzanne Jarboe-Si:lpson Our chairoerson, Ruby Lynch, advised the hoard of the need for a hoard member on the CDBG, (Community Development for Block Grant Citizens Steering Committee). It was decided that gat Long will he the new member. Dwight Saunders suggested a few examples of articles for the Senior Service Finder. Some of these suggestions were; newspaper delivery, skepticism reyarding insurance promoted by celebrities, the coupon war, and Thanksgiving dinners put on by churches for those who have no family. The Health Department will run 3 articles on health issues. A fnurth article on money management will also appear. A farewell card was signed by the hoard members for Barbara Kienholz, and a get -well card was signed for the husband of Lucy Tackle. All of the members seemed delighted with the arrangements for tho parkinq permits. It was agreed that a letter to Kelly Ohlson and Roh L-e would 5e sent thanking them for the permits and their continued support. The neeting was adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
