Minutes of March 12 meeting were approved as written. Joe Campanella reported that Anita Basham, Poudre Valley Hospital Home Care Program, had agreed to appear at a future Board meeting to discuss what Medicare/Medicaid covers, the covered length of stay in a hospital and what coverage is provided after dismissal. Joe said that the community resource pamphlet providing information on available home health care is being updated at this time. Both Anita Basham and Susan Pederson will be invited to speak to the Board about hospital dismissal policy and patient aftercare. Suzanne Jarboe -Simpson updated members on the progression of effective insurance liability limits. Several newspaper articles have appeared recently that speak to the concern. President Reagan has endorsed the recommendations of an administrative task force, although the task force did not recommend specific legislation. Concern at the federal and state levels may produce some liability "lids". Suzanne told Board of the likelihood that she will be replaced as staff liaison in July by Sam Easterling, but may remain in an advisory capacity to the Board. Suzanne and Sam will look into alternate meeting times and places for future Board meetings. Discussion of possible criteria for Board membership and composition resulted in the following recommendations to City Council for applicants to the Senior Advisory Board: - A sincere interest in problems and issues concerning seniors in both community and individual areas. - A balance of ages. - An interest in the operation of city government, as affects seniors. - Both willing and able to meet additional time requirements, more than just monthly Board Meetings. - Must be prepared to seriously commit to serving full -term. Guidelines for composition of Senior Board: - 1/3 Senior Citizens (age 55 years and older) - 1/3 Agency representatives - 1/3 From professional groups. It was moved and seconded to accept suggested criteria in selection of future Board members, with suggestions to be submitted to City Council. Approved unanimously. It was moved and seconded to accept guidelines for Board composition to recommend to City Council. Approved unanimously. A motion to suggest that one member of the Senior Advisory Board be present with Council members interviewing Board applicants to respond to questions about the Senior Board, to act as an information source was accepted unanimously. It was moved and seconded to request that Council supply names of applicants to Senior Board to use as a source of interested persons for future interaction and service. All Board members are to consider goals and be prepared to brainstorm goal planning at the regular monthly meeting in May. Each member is to bring ideas for future direction of Board. A future meeting will include a report from Sam Easterling in which she will share ideas and information brought back from the San Francisco Conference on Aging. Meeting was adjourned at 3:45.
