presented with a motion by Marjorie and a second by Kay. The
vote was unanimous.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Paint-A-Thon -- 28 applications Vare received, but three were
lost and two were not eligible because of the age requirement.
All but four of the houses have been screened and will go to the
Senior Advisory Board. Pat and Stehanie volunteered to rate th
applications based on the Rotary Club findings. They will meet
with Barb on Thursday, July 12, to do the ratings.
2. Report on the Area Agency on Aging -- The County
Commissioners gave the agency $5000. The budget was short by
$18,000 and the rest of the money was cut from the directors
salary and the salary of one other full-time employee. Both were
cut to 25 hours. The Commissioners later agreed to reinstitute
the director's salary. Barb said that the County will not sup-
port federal or state programs with county funds and they have
a tendency not to fund senior activities. That could affect
rural senior centers in Larimer County in the future.
3. Alternate members -- Barb passed out information on the
City's policy with regard to alternate members. She forwarded
the Board's feelings in regard to this matter to City staff.
Barb also passed out information on open meetings and memos that
require Boardqkponse. Barb needs to havqRmmediate feedback on
the open meeting materials.
4. Senior veterinary concerns -- Kay and Yetta will visit with
Dr. Voss at Colorado State University to examine the possibility
of using students for exams and cut rates for seniors. Kay will
arrange a meeting and a report will be made at the next meeting.
5. New West Pest -- The information booth will be manned by
Board members and volunteers from 11 to 4 p.m., Friday, Saturday
and Sunday. Kay will call everyone the week before to schedule
times.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Meeting with United Seniors -- the next meeting will be held
on August 17th at 2 p.m. at the Northside Community Center, to
coincide with the United Seniors monthly meeting. The first
twenty minutes of the meeting will be for AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION.
The regular business meeting will follow. The following are
items for the agenda:
a) Outreach report -- Yvonne will explain the role
of the Ad -Hoc committee and solicit involvement from
United Seniors membership;
b) Update on the Senior Center -- Barb will invite
Jean Helburg to give a report on the status;
c) Senior Center Council Report -- Margaret and Vickie
will report.
2. Pat welcomed the new members, Ron Bergen and Larry Chaussee,
as well as new Senior Center representative , Vickie Moody.
Inroductions were made.
3. Kay gave a brief update on the selection of the architect for
the Senior Center. The previous committee will be replaced with
a new committee and they will re -interview because of the protest
by Glaser. Kay also requested that all staff members be replaced
so that the project would be unbiased. Pat wants to know how the
committee will be chosen and who will represent senior concerns.
Barb will find out who is selecting and how they will select.
4. Kay asked if the Board would like her to follow up on the
letter to Economic Development in regard to selling Fort Collins
as a retirement community. Ron was raised in a retirement com-
munity and agrees that this would be beneficial. He offered to
help on this project.
FROM THE FLOOR
1. Vickie gave a report on the Senior Center Council Report.
This report will be added as a regular agenda item.
2. Marjorie said that her senior column for the Coloradoan has
been moved to the front page of the neighborhood section instead
of being buried in the back of the paper.

3. Marjorie is on the Senior Education Focus Group. They are
preparing a proposal, in rough draft, on how to better serve
seniors on the Colorado State campus. Two points in discussion
involve the auditing of classes at a reduced rate and the parking
program. They would like to see special areas assigned for
seniors and then a shuttle system used. She will bring more
information back to the next meeting.
4. Yetta will be recognized for her volunteer work in City
Council Chambers at 6:30 p.m. on July 17th.
5. Kay passed out copies of the letter to Governor Romer regard-
ing support of the Senior Games. (On Friday after this meeting,
Governor Romer's office called, thanking the group for informing
him about the event. He is proclaiming July 26 through the 29th
and Senior Games Week statewide in honor of the participants. A
written proclamation is forthcoming.)
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was
adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
