Senior Citizen Commission Meeting April 5, 1971
Present: Stegner, Preble, Sobel, Hinkhouse, Boggs, Peterson.
Social Security Administrator - Arnold Dordahl
Minutes - The minutes were approved as written and mailed last week.
Old Business - Dr. Sobel reported on the district meeting for the White
House Conference on Aging. One hundred -sixteen people attended, and
Dr. Sobel felt it went well. The next meeting will be the state meeting
in May.
Mrs. Preble read the letter and questionnaire she had sent to the Senior
Citizen groups asking for their ideas and help with Senior Citizen week.
She had only one return and no volunteers of help.
New Business - Mrs. Preble will send out a reminder to all Senior Citizen
clubs asking a representative to meet with us next month. This will be
at our regular meeting, May 3, but we will meet at the Friendship Room
at Federal Savings, The Commission members will meet together at 1:00
p.m., and the representatives will he asked to come at 1:30 p.m.
Senior Citizen Week - We decided upon May 16, to the 22. Rev, Hinkhouse
will be in charge of the coffees at churches. Claire Anderson will be
asked to head the Hobby Show again by Mrs. Stegner. The Courthouse should
be reserved soon. Rev. Hinkhouse moved and Mrs. Preble seconded that the
two Vista volunteers, now working in the Friendship Center, be asked to
organize the bus tour and pot -luck luncheon. After some discussion, it
was passed. These same Vista volunteers have proposed to CAP that they
be given the authority to operate a senior citizen program in the Friend-
ship Center. They would like our support, It was decided that we need
to see the proposal before taking action.
Housing - Thursday, April 15, we are all invited to a luncheon meeting at
the Top, 12:00 noon, that will provide information on a retirement com-
munity by the Good Samaritan Society.
DMA Housing proposal for the old Remington School lot as well as by the
Holy Family Church supposedly has been approved and is now awaiting fund-
ing which looks promising.
Presbyterian Church - Bill Boggs said that the Presbyterian Church group
is well organized but the DMA's plans have them concerned as to the need
for their plans too. They are thinking possibly of a low, sprawling plan
as opposed to the DMA's high rise.
Survey - Dr. Sobel said that we still need a survey to determine needs
for what kind of housing. Mr. Dordahl said Social Security does not
have information except those listed on social security. Discussion
followed on the possibility of using Senior Citizen groups and the up-
coming church survey as a means of doing a housing survey. Mr. Boggs,
Mr. Peterson and Dr. Sobel will meet to discuss a survey,
