Meeting of Senior Citizen Coordinating Council and Senior Citizen Commission.
May 4, 1971, 10:00 a.m., Friendship Room
Present - Commission members Mrs. Stegner, Mrs. Preble, Mrs. Locke Mr.
Peterson, Rev. Hinkhouse; two members of the Wellington Senior Citizen
Club; CSU Emerti; three members of NARCE; one from AARP, two from the Ameri-
can Baptist Senior Citizens; one from Golden Age Club; two from Happy Hours
Club; one from Social Security; Mrs. McKelvey from CAP Senior Citizen Center
and Linda Hagstrand and Marianne Potts, Vista Volunteers.
Minutes - the minutes of our last joint meeting in February were read.
Transportation - Mr. Frank Taylor reported that the Poudre Transportation
Corps. had applied for a federal grant. Mrs. Val Ogden requested some sen-
ior citizen representatives to work with her on this and Mrs. Liz McKelvey,
Mr. Walter Peterson and John Hudson volunteered.
Senior Citizen of the Month - Mrs. Locke stated that some organizations have
not nominated anyone and she encouraged them to do so.
Senior Citizen Week - May 15 to May 22, will be Senior Citizen Week in Fort
Collins. We discussed various aspects of the planning for this and arrived
at the following conclusions:
Parade - Several people requested a parade again and so it will be held on
May 15 with a barbecue in City Park following it. Liz McKelvey will work
on this with the help of Linda and Maryanne the Vista Volunteers.
Hobby Show - Mrs. Iiams and Mrs. Corzatt will be in charge of this. Mrs.
Corzatt's address and phone number were given incorrectly in the last letter,
it should be 3016 Phoenix Drive, 482-8002. Linda and Maryanne will pick up
items the owners desire displayed but who can't bring them down. We will need
volunteers to help hostess the show. If you can help call either of the chair-
men and ask your members also. Mrs. Stegner will see that there are tables
available.
Coffees - Rev. Hinkhouse announced that the churches will hold coffees again
this year on Thursday, May 20. Attend the church nearest you.
Bus Tour - The Girl Scouts will assist with this event which will be held
May 22 at 10:00 a.m. A tour will be given of Fort Collins especially the
outlying areas. We will have two buses available and bring a sack lunch to
be eaten afterwards in either Library Park or City Park. Pick up points
for the tour will be Friendship Center, Salvation Army, Safeway at Mulberry,
Library Park and possibly Carpenter Hall. Please tell your members about this.
Loveland Senior Citizens will have a kick-off for Senior Citizen Month with
a luncheon on May 6, 12;00 noon in the Community Building. Mrs. McKelvey
announced that it is a pot -luck, bring your own service and all are welcome.
Defensive Driving - the course to be given June 21 to June 24 is full but
call Walter Peterson if you want to be on the waiting list.

Taxi rates - More publicity is needed on the reduced rates so tell y our mem-
bers about this. Mr. Boggs will meet with the owner to see about getting a
six months membership for $5.
Meals on Wheels - in another month they hope to be in a new kitchen and then
the service can be expanded.
Workshop - Reservations to attend a training workshop for people working with
Senior Citizens can be made with Liz McKelvey. This is a cooperative effort
of the Council on Ageing and Social Security and will be held in Denver on
June 22 and 23. Mrs. McKelvey is available on Monday.,and.Wednesday afternoon
and Friday at 484-5517, Friendship Center.
Call Mrs. McKelvey also if you want more information on the parade or bus tour.
Watch for publicity on all the Senior Citizen's Week events and please be
responsible for telling your club members if at all possible. Please notify
the newspaper if there is a change in your meeting date or officers for the
Senior Citizen Calendar.
Next meeting of Senior Citizen Club Council will be in August. We will in-
form you of the time and place.
