Minutes of the June meeting were approved as mailed. There was no July meeting
due to lack of a quorum.
Mr. Charles Cain, City Finance Director presented a report (copy attached) on
the financial implications of the proposed city property tax remission for low
income senior citizens. This report was based on the survey of rent and taxes
paid by senior citizens of different income levels in the city and supported
further by available census data.
After discussion the Chairman appointed a committee composed of W. B. Peterson,
Rev. C. H. Hinkhouse and Charles N. Shepardson to draft a proposal to be submitted
to the various senior citizens' organizations for consideration and comments looking
to its subsequent submission to the City Council. It is anticipated that the
committee will contact the various groups at their August meetings in order that
a presentation may be made to the City Council in time for consideration at
its 1973 budget hearing this fall. A special meeting of the Commission for
this purpose was set for 3:30 p.m. Thursday August 24 1972 to be held at the
Goiaen Pear Tea Room, 400 E. Olive. _
The Chairman announced that the names of Helen Clarke, Francis N. Jordan and
Ed R. Martin have been submitted to the Mayor for appointment to fill vacancies
on the Commission.
