HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 12/08/1976IINUTES COORDINATING COIbISSION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS December 8, 1976 The regular meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens was held on Wednesday, December 8, 1976, in the Parlor of the First methodist Church at 1005 Stover at 2:30 P.M. John &:cGratic, .Executive UKKKirir Assistant Mz Beth Thomasma, Nutritionist r- Our new mamber, Mrs._Kenney,was introduced and Jim Conlon filled the Commissinn — in on her background and qualifications. Mrs. Kenney is a lawyer by training and practice. She is a graduate of Colorado University Law School and Practiced law here for 16 years before moving to California. She is still a meuber of Nshe Colorado Bar although she no longer practices law. N'z. Thomasma was introduced. She is in charge of the County Nutrition Program. Mrs. Dunford has gone thru the Conmission Minutes and recorded the significant acts and projeots from September ll-, 1974 thru Septeiaber 8,-1976. This supp- liments the resume prepared by Dr. Chas. Shephardson two years ago. Mrs. Dunford annovneed that FISH, the volunteer -pro --ram to haul the handicapped and indigent to doctors etc., has discontinued operation because of volunteers,w"— no longer available. Rev. Bigelow reported that the Rotary Club is considering sponsnring a "Buddy Card" system. Those living alone can place the buddy card in his or her window to indicate he or she is OK. The Commission spent much of its time reviewing, correcting, and adding to, the DIRECTORY OF SERVICES FOR SENIOR CITIZENS prepardd early this year by members of this commission. Mr. Brunton explained why the costs of services, electricity and water in part- icular, are going up. Water perhaps as such as 30a next year, and the costa of electricity as much as 85; in three or four years. The cost of street lightipg will go up 700% in four to five years. ;;;rh I.Y. Brunton wants to meet# the Commission at its January meeting to discuss re- funds to those people living in Andersonville, Buckingham and Alta Vista to b bring it into line with other parts of the City. >;resently a rebate is. being made to the rest of the city to cover the increase in untility rates over thf past several years.
