HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 03/09/19770 s MINUTES COORDINATING COMMISSION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS March 9, 1977 The regular meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens was held on Wednesday, March 9, 1977 in the Parlor of the First United Methodist Church at 1005 Stover at 2:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order at 2:45 P.M. by Chairman Fran Bigelow. Members Present: Rev. Fran Bigelow, Chairman Mr. C.E. Hommon, Vide -Chairman Mrs. Lois Chung, Secretary Mr. James Conlon Mr. Ed Martin Mrs. Mabel Kenney Mrs. Ginny Dunford Members Absent: Dr. Hank Gardner Guests: Mr. John McGraw - Human Resources Mr. Steve Hamman - Care -A -Van Ms. Christina Kerns - Student Mr. Ernie Garrison - Student The minutes of the February 9, 1977 meeting were approved as read. Today's Agenda includes: MINUTES; CORRESPONDENCE; REPORTS -- Steve Hamman: Care -A -Van; OLD BUSINESS - Utility Bill Rebate Program; Seminars and Forums; NEW BUSINESS. CORRESPONDENCE: A letter of resignation was read from Dr. Hank Gardner. He has accepted the position of Director of the University Counseling Center at the University of Arkansas which will begin on March 21, 1977. Chairman Fran Bigelow will send an acceptance note. A letter from Joe Krehbiel, State of Colorado, Office of Human Resources was read. He notified the Commission that Gary Houser is the Aging Coordinator for our region. Two letters from Chairman Fran Bigelow to the Residents at DMA Plaza and to Bill Robertson, thanking them for their help in putting the Directory of Services for Senior Citizens together were read. REPORTS: Steve Hamman: Care -A -Van. Steve Hamman reported on the services provided by Care -A -Van. Due to Title III Care -A -Van is able to provide more services. xhe elderly can ride on Care -A -Van regardless of their financial situation. Care -A - Van can provide transportation for all medical needs. Care -A -Van is committed to Gateway in the mornings and late afternoons. Ginny Dunford volunteered to assist an elderly person in grocery shopping. The Annual Appreciation Dinner held on February 24, 1977 was a success. Five members attended the dinner at the Holiday Inn. Altogether there were between 175-200 people who attended the dinner. Page 2 MINUTES (Continued) March 9, 1977 OLD BUSINESS: Utility Bill Rebate Program. The $25.00 utility rebate was established in 1974. The criteria for being eligible for a rebate consists of five points: 1) must be a senior citizen in August; 2) a resident of Fort Collins; 3) must pay all bills; 4) pay bills in full; and 5) must be low income. The Senior Citizens Coordinating Commission must decide which recommendation to make. The topic was tabled for further discussion until next month. A brief report on the meeting about Seminars and Forums was given by Chairman Fran Bigelow and Lois Chung. Much interest was expressed on this subject. The Financial and Legal Group will meet again on Monday, May 2, 1977 at noon at the Public Library. NEW BUSINESS: The Fort Collins City Council will consider Friday two new members for the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens. The April 13, 1977 meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens will be held in the Parlor of the First United Methodist Church at 1005 Stover at 2:30 P.M.
