APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 9 MEETING
Stan stated that the date of the Network Luncheon should be changed
from SEptember 25 to September 27 at the bottom of Page 3. Jane Goodhart
added that Senior Housing Counseling Community Advisory Board under the
topic Senior Living Options on the same page should be changed to Living
Centers of America. Wayne Moellenberg then moved that the minutes
should be accepted as amended. The motion was seconded and carried.
After the minutes were approved, Yvonne asked each person to introduce
himself/herself because several visitors were attending the meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
Health Care Access Coalition
Yvonne asked for permission, and received approval, to change the order
of the agenda. Since Linda Nielsen was present, Yvonne moved her position
from the first item under New Business to the first item under Old Busi—
ness.
The Health Care Access Coalition, Linda stated, was formed just after the

the recent survey conducted by Dial —A —Ride. Now, when someone lodges
a complaint, the person is notified immediately by a card or letter and
then is informed of the action taken after the complaint had been
resolved. He also mentioned that he had set up a Dial —A —Ride Advisory
Board Review that meets quarterly to discuss issues and to review com—
plaints. The Board, he added, has no official status, but is merely an
advisory panel for him and Tom Frazier.
Letter to Frank Bruno
Kay called the Board's attention to a letter that she had written to
Frank Brune and Frank's reply. In the letter, Kay had expressed strong
support for Debra Buena of the Northside Community Center.
Seniors Living Options
Because Jane had to leave early, Kay considered the Senior_Living Options
item next. Jane reported that Senior Living Options had been closed
down a few days ago, and it will no longer provide housing counseling.
The housing list will now be provided by the Office on Aging until
December. In January, the restructuring will allow something else to
happen. Kay added that she had written a letter expressing the views
of the SAB on the Seniors Living Options as she had been instructed at
the August 8 meeting of the SAB.
Network Luncheon
Kay announced that the SAB will be holding a joint session with the
Office on Aging Advisory Council on Thursday, September 14, at 2:30 P.
M. in the Senior Center. The purpose of the meeting will be to make
last minute arrangements for the Network Luncheon. Kay also reviewed
the agenda for the luncheon and talked about the publications that will
be available for distribution.
Paint —A —Thou
Stan reported that he had contacted Mark Gallegos, chairman, Colorado
Paint—A—Thon Committee for Colorado, and asked him if the SAB could be
involved in future Paint—A—Thons in Fort Collins. Mark's response was
encouraging and he said that he would work on our behalf. The concensus
of the Board was that we should pursue the matter and that Stan should
write a letter to Mark to indicate that the SAB is willing to sponsor,
or co—sponsor, future Paint—A—Thons.
CORRESPONDENCE
Because the Correspondence item on the agenda had been pre—empted by
Linda's presentation, Kay backtracked to that topic. She passed around
a notice about an ADA workshop, a communique about displaying public
notices from Wanda and a memo from the city that work plans are due by
the end of November.

and that since Care —A —Van will close its doors in December, RSVP will
be looking for a new sponsor.
Christina added that RSVP, along with AARP, will be sponsoring a
Reminiscence Program training that will be conducted by Violet Garrison,
AARP State Reminiscence Training Coordinator, on October 10, 11 and 12.
She asked for volunteers to attend the training session. RSVP will
also be hosting a Medicare Counseling Training on Friday, October 6.
Aspen Club. Since Jill was absent, no report was given.
City Council. Ed reported that the Council had not discussed any
topics that would be of concern to seniors.
Seniors Airborne. Kay announced that she will be hosting the show on
October 6, and John Pfeiffenberger will be hosting it on October 20.
Kay also mentioned that KIIX had been sold and she will find out if
the change in ownership will affect Seniors Airborne. Country Buffet's
contract to sponsor the program in the Senior Center ran out, and she
said she will negotiate to see if Country Buffet would want to continue
the remote broadcasts.
Friends of the Senior Center. The Chili Cook —Off is set for October 7,
and Kay said that she would like to see members of the Board partici—
pate again. Barbara added that the SAB usually provided "stuffers"
for a bag that each cook in the Cook -Off gets. She urged each member
to solicit some trinket as a giveaway from businesses.
Blanche announced that the Friends will also be hosting a Chinese
Auction on Friday, September 29, in the Senior Center. Blanche
encouraged everyone to attend the auction and to donate time, if
possible.
Office on Aging. The Office on Aging now has a full complement of
members, Stan reported. He also said that Elizabeth Kelly, ombudsman,
told about an Alzheimer's Walk on October 23, and everyone is welcome
to participate. Elizabeth also passed around a draft of "A Guide to
Affordable Legal Services for Older Adults" and asked for suggestions.
She added that a workshop entitled, "Conflict Management Skills for
Long —Term Care Providers", will be held on September 14 and October 12.
Shelley announced that assessment of the human service delivery is
still under way and that Helpline had received money from the Office on
Aging, but the OOA will have to wait several more months to evaluate
the operation. Ayleen Burns stated that SEnior Living Options had sent
out a new list of housing options, but that the OOA staff was disappointed
with it because it contained many inaccuracies and omissions. A tempor—
ary list was developed by Elizabeth Kelly and Cheryl Brown to use when
callers need information. Ellen Long spoke about "Make a Difference
Day" that will be held on Saturday, October 28. Greg Jones, Estes Park,
talked about Estes Park's Pick Me Up Program that was recently started
to provide transportation for seniors in Estes Park. It is operated
mainly by 15 volunteers and one staff person. In July, the program
handled 115 rides, an increase of 6 over the previous month. Greg added
that the program is now working with the town of Estes Park to provide
a full—time staff person so that the system could gain more stability
and permanence.
