RE: City Budget input for the years 1998 and 1999
Thank you for the opportunity for the Senior Advisory Board to provide you with valuable input into
the City Budget process for the years 1998 and 1999.
At our meeting on March 12, 1997 our board discussed senior issues and needs in our community.
We came up with the following areas we feel need continued support from the City in the way of
vision, values and dollars.
1. We feel there needs to be a priority to increase the amounts of attainable senior
housing in our community. Family housing for young families has its supporters and we
feel that attainable housing for older adults should have the same level of support.
2. The paratransit system in our community has gone through a number of changes
through the past few years. We fear that over time this service will become so expensive
the community will no longer be able to use this service and it will disappear.
3. We strongly support preserving reduced recreation fees for seniors. We also feel there
should be an increase in the scholarship program for leisure services for seniors.
The three areas we have identified are in great need of support. We hope that the city budget process
will promote these areas so that our city will meet the needs of its older adult population.
