The Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board held a regular meeting on June 10, 1998 at the
Senior Center.

Meeting was called to order by the chair, Yvonne Myers at 2:05 PM.
Citizen Participation: None.
Correspondence: Yvonne attended a workshop given by Susan Haines on legal issues
pertaining to seniors and provided SAB members with info to get on a mailing list for her
newsletter.
Approval of minutes: Minutes approved unanimously as written.
Guest Speakers: Jill Taylor, Christina Ulrich, Ken Kirchhoff, and Gary Everett of
SALT. Ken will unfortunately no longer have a full time position as crime prevention and
may not have the time to attend all the SALT and TRIAD meetings. Christina gave some
history of SALT and TRIAD. Gary explained how the committees work and how the
communities input gets referred to the appropriate resources. He also explained the File
of Life and how it works. With help from the Soap Troupe they will be making a video
to act out frauds and scams to show what kinds of things can happen. It will air on
channel 27. Jill announced the anniversary of TRIAD. Ken led some discussion on fraud
and the fact that there are too few officers for community prevention type programs.
Old Business:
A. Transportation: Department of Transportation mandated that starting in 2112 all
buses must be disabled accessible.
B. Housing: Those interested can call (800)361-5222 for Senator Ben Nighthorse
Cambell's office to oppose an 83% reduction in section 202 funding for senior
housing. Kay passed around the Goals and Mission Statement for the Senior
Attainable Housing Task Force.

C. City Line: Will start in November. SAB's number will be in the next phone book.
Will advertise in the September issue of Pathways. Marjorie, Blanche and Erik will
work on a script for the message.
D. Web Page: SAB will review a printout, make changes and submit to Fort Net next
month.
E. Media: Marjorie reported that there is a special on CSPAN, "Graying Nations".
1999 is the year of the Older Person, globally. Barbara reported on a mailing she
received from Aging International, a board with representatives from around the
world.
F. Human Rights Ordinance: Will be up for vote in the next election.
G. Human Relations Award: Mary Fagan Bates, who has been very active in the
community won. SAB is disappointed that Esther did not receive the award.
H. Outreach Meetings: Yvonne and Fran gave a presentation at the AARP meeting.
I. Older Women's Issues/Commission on the Status of Women: They may attend the
July meeting and have asked to use the SAB as an expert committee. Yvonne is on a
committee developing a Web site on elder care issues and has stressed the value of
older women.
J. Liaisons
1. OOA: Kay reports they are finalizing Goals and Objectives.
2. RSVP: Christina reports that July 16 is the 25`s anniversary recognition
event. July 24`s they will have an open house at the Peterson Carriage House.
3. Aspen Club: Jill reported on some current projects including a Tai Chi class
and the purchase of a small bone density scan. Blanche will now be the
liaison for the Aspen Club
4. Foundation on Aging: Fran reported that Mildred Arnold donated life savings
to community senior services. Senior organizations can make requests for this
funding.
New Business
A. Goodbye to Members: Dessert, gifts, a thank you and goodbye to those leaving the
SAB
B. Rolland Moore Pathway: Discussed the possibility of a pathway between the Senior
Center and Rolland Moore Park. SAB will send a letter to Mike Powers and Ann
Azari in support of this pathway.
C. Marcile Wood Award Discussed nominating a senior woman for this award. Senior
Center Council is already nominating Liz Case.
D. New SAB Members: There will be an orientation for new SAB members on July 301'
at noon.
Other Business: The 5 ° anniversary for the American Disability Act is coming up.

The Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board held a special meeting on April 20, 1998, at the Fort
Collins Senior Center. Members were notified by phone of the meeting.

Meeting was called to order by the chair, Yvonne Myers, at 11:40 AM
Citizen Participation: Sister Mary Alice Murphy presented information regarding the next
proposed CARE Housing Development, Windtrail Park. This development has plans for ten units
for seniors. She described the requirements for seniors to live in these units. Krista Moberly
described the screening process, house rules and management CARE provides to their housing
units. They requested any sort of support the SAB could provide would be helpful.
SAB members in attendance wrote a letter in support of this CARE Housing project. Two
members agreed to attend a Neighborhood meeting on April 23, 1998 to present the letter and to
show the support from SAB.
