OLD BUSINESS
Commission Chairwoman Shirley Reichenbach presented to the group a
survey asking for input from the commission regarding the senior
center. There will be an Open House and Ice Cream Social at the
Opera Galleria May 1, 1991, 2:00-4:00 for further input on the
senior center.
Felix Lee stated that he and Chairwoman Reichenbach are still
working on a letter to the PTO's and Student Council of the local
schools. The letter will bring to their attention the accessibility
of their schools to the disabled community. Chairwoman Reichenbach
mentioned in the letter an educational program could be offered to
the schools if needed. Chairwoman Reichenbach also mentioned that
a copy of this letter could be mailed to the School Board
candidates.
Boardmember Gerhicke reported that Connections 191 was a success.
Approximately 400 people attended. The presentation on ADA was well
received and workshops were effective. Boardmember Gerhicke gave

The handicap access to Poudre Valley Hospital was discussed.
Boardmember Beauchamp stated the ramp appears to be poorly
designed. The handicap parking signs were also discussed and the
placement of those signs. Shirley Reichenbach and Felix Lee will do
a site visit.
Boardmember Byrnes stated she is continuing to keep a diary
regarding transportation issues with Care -a -van.
NEW BUSINESS
Boardmember Byrnes had a concern that the information regarding the
ADA convention in Durango last week did not get to her in time to
make arrangements for transportation. Boardmember Jackson said two
people did attend from Fort Collins, Bill Livingston and Carol Ann
Frisco and they could be contacted for further information
regarding this conference.
Boardmember Jackson stated that she has received a newsletter from
the Disabled American Veterns. In it was an article with regard to
• the Handicap Person of the Year (Dorothy Lazlo Award) receiving
more recognition by making the winner a lapel pin.
Chairwoman Reichenbach mentioned DRS was hosting a Wine Fest, May
3rd, 7:00-10:00pm at the Lincoln Center. The cost is $18.00 per
person for advance tickets and $20.00 for tickets at the door.
Boardmember Beachchamp mentioned that there is no way for a
handicap person in a wheelchair can get on an airplane at the Fort
Collins/Loveland Airport. He thought it was a concern for the COD.
Felix Lee asked for a formal recommendation from the Commission on
Disability to City Council on the Accessible Housing Exceptions
Ordinance. Boardmember Beauchamp made a motion that the Commission
on Disability endorse the Accessibility Housing Exceptions
Ordinance. The motion was seconded by Lori Gerhicke. The motion
passed unanimously.
At one time the COD had discussed putting the Snow Removal Program
in the newsletter. The Commission decided to submit their Snow
Removal Project for the NOD Community Awards Program -and not the
NOD newsletter, the same program can not be submitted to both.
Boardmember Beauchamp mentioned that if the COD has input on
further planning to the Swanson Natural Area let him know and he
dowill relate that to the proper committee.
