Initially, Platte River did not have any parking spaces for disabled visitors. They currently have one space designated for the disabled, but did not sign the space properly. Ginny DeHerdt offered to visit Platte River Power Authority, and Pete will find out what the City's responsibility is in this matter. He will also call the director. John Boulette said that he is very concerned about parking violations in spaces reserved for disabled individuals. He said that Boulder has adopted a citizens committee that allowed citizens to write tickets. He also gave the COD the phone number for the Denver Commission for People with Disabilities (640-3056), which may also have information about these types of programs. Craig Foreman presented a plan for a trail bridge and a parking lot SW of Highway 14 and Lemay Avenue. The parking lot and trail bridge will greatly improve the trail system, and will be accessible to the disabled. The COD agreed to send a letter of support for the trail improvement funding. The COD also asked that a parks planner be invited to a COD meeting in the next several months so that the Commission can learn about parks planning. Ray Sanderson discussed the travel training brochure that had been included in the packet with the minutes from the December COD meeting. Ray said that his suggestions were to make the brochure bigger (tri-fold), and provide a Spanish version. After the paratransit contract is in place (sometime after March), the Transportation Committee may only need to meet every 3-4 months. The City may consider installing a dock and restrooms in the N. Transit Center. However, this is extremely preliminary. The Plan Review Subcommittee is currently looking at plans for the Preserve. Established a subcommittee of Diane Rehner and Angela Byrne to review disabled parking enforcement needs/possibilities. The new building code will come before Council for their consideration on Feb. 15. COD will write a letter explaining their recommendations and asking again that these recommendations be included in the Code. It would be appropriate to include data in this letter supporting the COD recommendations. Bob Jackson at CSU is working to establish a clubhouse for people with mental illness. This clubhouse takes the place of day - treatment centers and has a vocational emphasis. Clients are provided assistance in finding employment. They need a building or part of a building. Bob Jackson is going to contact the Downtown Business Association. Please let Rita know if you have additional ideas on possible locations. Steve Annear is willing to resign from his vice -chair position if the COD wishes. The COD voted to accept Steve's resignation, and also to ask if he feels it is appropriate for him to resign from the Commission itself. The COD also voted to send a letter to Judith Sayre Grim expressing its concern with her inability to attend meetings or work on subcommittees, and asking that she consider resigning. The Executive Committee will prepare the 1993 work report, as per the City Clerk's request. Meeting adjourned at 5:00.
