Introductions... Welcomes were extended to the new COD member, Ted Tsai. 2. New West Fest Booth... A sign-up sheet for monitoring the booth was passed around by Diane and Rita. Diane and Rita explained the different equipment and demonstrations that are planned for the day. Diane explained the need for volunteers and felt uncomfortable that there would be enough participation. 3. Dial -a -Ride Presentation by John Daggett of the staff, the Transportation Board and the Senior Board recommendations to resolve the problem regarding over subscription and use of the Dial -a - Ride. Purpose was to garner feedback and the recommendation of the Commission of Disability to the City Council regarding the problem. The Commission concurred with the staff recommendation (see Dial -A -Ride memo provided with the tentative agenda), with the addition of a sliding scale with a contingency fund for the low income. The detailed COD recommendation is to: Use $78,000 from 1994 budget. Renegotiate contracts with Shamrock, Care -A -Van. Encourage use of the fixed route system. Education/marketing of accessible stops. Transfer SAINT out of the Dial -A -Ride System. Limit paratransit service to ADA eligible. Charge a fare for ADA eligible. Establish a contingency fund for the low income. Bob Willmot will attend the Council worksession on August 23rd at 6:15 to represent the Commission. 4. Diane is planning to pursue her alternative snow removal plan, and will report back to the Commission at a later date. 5. Diane distributed copies of applications of people who have interviewed and been approved for the Commission. 6. The Commission would like to work with the Police Department to monitor and encourage the disabled parking program. Ted volunteered to be the Commission's primary contact with the Police Department. The Commission would like to have an update on the program on a quarterly basis. Commission members will help the Police Department mail letters about the program to local businesses, by folding letters and stuffing envelopes. Suggested that any signs posted at local businesses read "Handicapped Parking Enforced" and "Parking Offenses Can Be Reported At..." 7. ADA training has been re -scheduled for October 5 and November 4 from 9:00 - 4:30. Contact Employee Development to register. 8. June and July meeting minutes approved. Adjourned - 4:50.
