in the COD by-laws. State in the letters that if a response is not received by the
date due, the Commission will consider that the member has resigned.
- Mayor's Awards have been sent out and are due back on Monday, October 10 at
5:00 p/m/ Rita McGill and Ginny DeHerdt are charged with selecting the winners.
Rita will pick up completed applications on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Rita will call
Andrea's replacement with the winners Friday morning (October 14). (Calling
earlier would be great, too!!) Rita will also notify those who won of the awards
ceremony. Andrea's replacement will have the certificates made up, and purchase
the frames for the certificates. Andrews replacement will also purchase the food for
the reception, and will type up an awards list for the public (to put on the table
outside Council Chambers), a list for the Mayor, and a list for Alan Apt. Ray
Sanderson will make introductory remarks, and assist the Mayor and Alan Apt in
introducing those who won. Alan Apt will announce that the COD is accepting
nominations at Tuesday's Council meeting.
- Ted met with Pat Kelly and reported on the parking program... Pat is trying to
collect information on number of violations and problem areas. He may use
Boy/Girl Scouts to collect data during the holiday season. He would like to target
those areas which are particularly problematic. (Pat is concerned that not everyone
recognizes all three(?) or four(?) legal handicapped designations. Merchants are
responding to the letters sent by the COD.
Bob Willmot stated that he though Pat Kelly was going to send a letter to the
Collegian.
- Question on what happened to an ordinance to make piling snow in handicapped
parking spaces illegal. Alan Apt stated that he would ask for a two page memo on
the subject.
- Question on what happened to increasing fines for parking illegally in a
handicapped parking space... The Commission sent a memo to Judge Allin and Dan
Martin in June with the request to increase parking fines. Ted Tsai to follow up.
- Diane reported that she met with Rich Kopp from the Streets Department on
sidewalk snow removal. Diane's interest is in educating residents about the
importance of promptly removing snow from the sidewalk. Dine is looking for good
pictures of someone falling on an icy walk OR volunteers to stage such an incident,
as part of a p.r. campaign.
- Dial -A -Ride: Ginny DeHerdt reported that there may be some concerns about the
quality of service with Dial -A -Ride, and suggested that the Transportation
Subcommittee re -convene to study this quality issue. Members concurred that this
is a good idea.
- New West Fest: The event went really well, and many people visited the booth
and went through the activities. It was very satisfying, and a lot of positive
feedback was received. A special thanks to Diane and to all who helped.
- Ted suggested that the COD form some sort of liaison with C.S.U.'s Disabled
Resource Services.
