HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 09/19/1994Members Present: Rita McGill Diane Rehner Ray Sanderson Ted Tsai Bob Willmot Members Absent: Steve Annear Roy Beauchamp Angela Byrne Debbie Kalin Shirley Reichenbach COMMISSION ON DISABILITY SEPTEMBER 19, 1994 MEETING Staff Present: Andrea Rieger Guests: Alma Vigo -Morales Ginny DeHerdt Alan Apt Note: No quorum, so discussion items only. - Arne Andresen will be replaced as a Commission member. - Those present asked that Steve Annear, Shirley Reichenbach and Debbie Kalin be sent letters requesting their resignation, in accordance with the attendance policies in the COD by-laws. State in the letters that if a response is not received by the date due, the Commission will consider that the member has resigned. - Mayor's Awards have been sent out and are due back on Monday, October 10 at 5:00 p/m/ Rita McGill and Ginny DeHerdt are charged with selecting the winners. Rita will pick up completed applications on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Rita will call Andrea's replacement with the winners Friday morning (October 14). (Calling earlier would be great, too!!) Rita will also notify those who won of the awards ceremony. Andrea's replacement will have the certificates made up, and purchase the frames for the certificates. Andrews replacement will also purchase the food for the reception, and will type up an awards list for the public (to put on the table outside Council Chambers), a list for the Mayor, and a list for Alan Apt. Ray Sanderson will make introductory remarks, and assist the Mayor and Alan Apt in introducing those who won. Alan Apt will announce that the COD is accepting nominations at Tuesday's Council meeting. - Ted met with Pat Kelly and reported on the parking program... Pat is trying to collect information on number of violations and problem areas. He may use Boy/Girl Scouts to collect data during the holiday season. He would like to target those areas which are particularly problematic. (Pat is concerned that not everyone recognizes all three(?) or four(?) legal handicapped designations. Merchants are responding to the letters sent by the COD. Bob Willmot stated that he though Pat Kelly was going to send a letter to the Collegian. - Question on what happened to an ordinance to make piling snow in handicapped parking spaces illegal. Alan Apt stated that he would ask for a two page memo on the subject. - Question on what happened to increasing fines for parking illegally in a handicapped parking space... The Commission sent a memo to Judge Allin and Dan Martin in June with the request to increase parking fines. Ted Tsai to follow up. - Diane reported that she met with Rich Kopp from the Streets Department on sidewalk snow removal. Diane's interest is in educating residents about the importance of promptly removing snow from the sidewalk. Dine is looking for good pictures of someone falling on an icy walk OR volunteers to stage such an incident, as part of a p.r. campaign. - Dial -A -Ride: Ginny DeHerdt reported that there may be some concerns about the quality of service with Dial -A -Ride, and suggested that the Transportation Subcommittee re -convene to study this quality issue. Members concurred that this is a good idea. - New West Fest: The event went really well, and many people visited the booth and went through the activities. It was very satisfying, and a lot of positive feedback was received. A special thanks to Diane and to all who helped. - Ted suggested that the COD form some sort of liaison with C.S.U.'s Disabled Resource Services. Adjourned: 4:40
