I. March 24th Minutes
Approved as written
II. (dis)Ability Awareness Meeting
The second meeting of the (dis)Ability Awareness Committee was held April 81' at
Poudre Valley Hospital. Alan reported the progress of the Committee and distributed
minutes to Commission members. Alan also commented that the committee will be
meeting with the Chamber Board of Directors and Poudre School District; Mark C.
and Stacey suggested that Alan arrange to get on PSD's Executive Staff (?) agenda.
For detailed information please refer to the attached copy of Alan's minutes.
III. COD Video
Mark C. unveiled the COD Video to rave reviews. At its very first showing the
audience was treated to a plethora of visually stimulating images. Not only were
there an abundance of still photographs, but the Cable 27 crew made time to video
tape and insert live action of people and their everyday lives. The Commission all
agreed that it was worth the two years of effort and gave Mark a resounding applause.
Mark also made it very clear that the crew at Cable 27 did not charge a dime for the
video and that we should thank them for this very thoughtful and kind act.
Action: Don will draft a letter of thanks to Carson Hamlin, Michael Gitter,
Mark Grant, and Jeff Koska.
IV. Dial -A -Ride
Steve and Blair reported that Bob Palmer had spoken with the City's Budget
Administrator for Community Development Block Grants (Jackie Davis) and learned
that Dial -A -Ride requested $73,000 of CDBG funds. Jackie thinks that this amount
can be matched with "Back -to -Work" funds. If this happens, Dial -A -Ride has the
potential of acquiring $146,000 which could buy 11,231 rides at $13.00 a ride. Bob
would like to know if the Commission is interested in supporting this effort; April
29" has been identified as the deadline.
The Commission is always looking for ways to support paratransit services in the
City. However, before it can throw its support behind any effort to acquire more
funds, it needs some more answers such as:
• Is this a grant that is somehow tied to Welfare to Work?
• What limitations would there be; how would the money have to be used?
• What does it mean to support the effort? Writing grants; going to hearings?
• What happens on April 29"?
Action: Bob will research the answers to these questions and report back to the
Commission on April 28th.
