MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 9, 1999
Those present at this meeting included: Nancy Baker, Mark Beck, Laura Burnett, Don
Fish, Mark Kramer, David Markres, Lila Vizzard, Steve Seefeld and Robert Palmer.
I. Discussion began with the planning for the up coming Nineteenth Mayor's
Awards Presentation. The list of nominees per the board will include:
approximately eighty invitations by mail to service organizations dealing with
disabilities in the Fort Collins area, plus a press release in the Coloradoan and
announcement on the Commission on Disability web site. The Awards to be
presented will include: Employer of the year, Service Provider of the Year,
Volunteer of the Year and the Dorothy Lasley Memorial Award. This year in
order to maintain a reasonable budget and find space large enough to hold this
event only one invitation; to the nominee or the service agency's representative,
of the eighty agencies, can be provided. This also means that each agency can
only choose one nominee from the four award categories. With the Commission
on Disability members and City staff attending, the potential for over one hundred
people at the Mayor's Awards exists. The Commission wants to have this a
luncheon event to be held October 22, 1999 at the Columbine Room of Lincoln
Center from 11:45am to 1:45pm. All Occasions Catering will provide a seat down
luncheon including: Soup (Vegetable Minestrone), Salad(Gourmet County Salad),
with choice of two dressings: Parmesan Ranch or Raspberry Balsamic
Vinaigrette, choice of one of three main courses: (Pasta: Vegetarian Lasagna, or
Chicken: Cordon Bleu, or Beef: Beef Burgundy and Dessert: Chocolate Layer
Cake plus beverage choice from three: ice tea, lemonade or coffee. The Mayor
Mr. Ray Martinez plus a guest speaker will speak.

I. The critical process for the mayor's Awards was reviewed by the Commission which is
as follows:
1. Create a three man committee to review nominee applications September 9, 1999.
This will be: David Marckres, Mark Beck and Laura Burnett,
2. Create list of applicants for nomination from the service organizations and
employment agencies.
3. Submit press release to Coloradoan on September 10, 1999.
4. Mail out applications and invitations on September 14, 1999.
5. Contact application organizations about submitting a nominee application with
candidate for an award on September 17,1999.
6. Make a second contact with organizations approximately one week later.
7. Receive applications back on September 30, 1999.
8. Three man committee reviews the applications to pick winners starting Oct. 1,1999.
9. COD votes on final list of winners for Mayor's Awards October 7, 1999. This
meeting will replace the October 14,1999 regular meeting. The October 7, 1999
meeting will be at the same time and we will meet in Council Chambers.
10. Nominee winners will be contacted to insure that they will be present at Mayor's
Awards October 12, 1999.
11. RSVP's are to be compiled to turn in a head count to the food catering service and
Lincoln Center.
12. Mayor's Awards takes place Friday October 22, 1999 11:45am to 1:45pm.
The guest speaker of the Awards presentation will be: Scott Flores, President of Die Cut
Technologies and his subject will be employment of the disabled.
The budget has been defined at $2,500.00 and presented to the Deputy City Manager
Diane Jones.
The American Legion needs to be contacted as they will be giving an award at the
Mayor's Awards in conjunction with the Dorothy Lasley Memorial Award. This will be
handled by David Marckres the chairman of the Awards Committee.

II. Nomination of new officers was held and the nominees where as follows:
• Chairman: Mark Kramer
• Vice Chairman: Mark Beck, Nancy Baker, Laura Burnett, David Marckres.
• Historian: Nancy Baker, David Marckres
• Member at Large: Mark Beck, Don Fish.
Election of the New Officers will take place next meeting September 23, 1999.
III. The mayor has stated that a sign language interpreter will be added at city council
meetings.
IV. Visitors to our meeting were: Kathern Johnson and Dave Ross, both are making
application to the Commission on Disability.
V. The next meeting of the Commission on Disability will take place in the City Hall CIC
Room Thursday September 23, 1999 at 12:15pm to 1:30pm. The meeting will be will
have at least the following Agenda items.
I. Election of Officers.
II. Allan Apt and his subcommittee session and discussion.
III. Update and discussion on Mayor's Awards.
IV. Discussion about applying for Local Affiliation of Universal Access.
