COMMISSION ON DISABILITY
MEETING MINUTES
Nov 18, 1999
Present at the November 18, 1999 meeting included: Alan Apt, Nancy Baker, Mark Beck, Laura Burnett,
tom Cook -visitor, Don Fish, Mark Kramer, Kathryn -visitor, David Marckres, Nathan Montgomery, Robert
Palmer -city, Steve Seefeld-city, Initha Stuckey.
Tom Cook presented information about the Flag Tree program, and the proposal was well received by the
commission. It was suggested that two locations be piloted — Shields and Prospect, and Shields and Drake.
The possibility of vests instead of flags was brought up as many wheelchair -bound individuals would not
have a free hand to hold and wave a flag.
A subcommittee was established to write the year end report to city council. Don Fish, Laura Burnett and
Mark Kramer will handle this with a submission from Alan Apt regarding his committee.
Alan Apt announced the next employment committee meeting will be at noon, December P, at the CIC
room.
Next, the commission discussed some possible options for applying for a transportation grant through
CDBG or CDOT to expand bus service. Adding service on evenings Monday through Saturday would cost
$222,000 to $278,000 and add 4 or 5 vehicles. A Sunday route 6 am to 11 pm would cost about $110,000.
We spent most of the remaining time creating a 2000 Work Plan from the 1999 Work Plan.
Attendance was discussed and the commission voted to replace Nathan Montgomery. Don Fish volunteered
to write Nathan a letter. All Commission members are reminded that the by-laws require dismissal for non-
attendance.
The next meeting will be December 9, 1999 from 12:15 to 1:30 in the CIC Room of City Hall. The agenda
will include finalizing the 2000 Work Plan, reviewing the 2000 calendar and reports of Old Business. This
will be the final meeting of 1999.
