II. Meeting called to order by chair Marjorie McTaggert at 2 PM.
III. Citizen Participation
Lew Lachman of AARP incited SAB members to a seminar on Scams and
Frauds to be held on October 21 at the Senior Center. Among subjects to be
discussed will be Y2K, Medicare and Medicaid. Local officials and business
persons will participate. Refreshments will be available.
IV. Correspondence
Marjorie read a letter from Cultural Resources Board in which SAB was asked for
a letter of support to City Council regarding upgrading Fort Collins Museum.
Board needs to obtain more information abut this project before we comply.
V. Minutes approved as corrected (as follows).
C. Old Business — Kaufinan Board senior housing at JFK Parkway held up
due to lack of audit reports.
D. IYOP Dignity Committee presented slide show at Aspen Club.
E. Erik's name misspelled.
VI. Guest Speaker
Paul Scofield of Poudre Valley Health System Talked about the new facility PVH
System is starting to build on 100 acres at Harmony and Timberline. Master plan
includes nursing, medical care, plans to promote healthy living, wellness,
accommodations for transients who will use facility.
VII. Old Business
A. Transportation — Florence
Study of I-25 corridor begins in August, $300,000 is estimated for
legal jurisdictions.
City Council will pick a route for relocation of Highway 14 on
June 15
Dial -a -Ride — Visits to Loveland doctors now offered.
B. - Outreach — Yvonne spoke to youth Advisory Board on May 5,
1999 to bring them up to date on IYOP activities and to consider
partnering with SAB on future intergenerational events.
- County -wide Resident Council scheduled for May 19 will not be
attended by SAB. It was decided to reschedule this so more
members will be able to go to it.
- Does Board need to revise Outreach ?
C. Housing — Kay
It has been suggested that Affordable Housing Board and CDBG
combine. Not considered a good idea AHB. K&B wants to build
Elizabeth street project. AHB has several objections to this because
plans are not compatible with seniors needs.
Northern Hotel idea not well received by AHB. A copy of
contracts has been requested by AHB.
Neighbor to Neighbor has requested funds to use Coach Light
Motel as housing.
Volunteers of America has applied for a HUD grant to build
affordable senior housing on Horsetooth. There is no official head
for Affordable Housing Authority as Ann watts has left.
IYOP — Marjorie — Barbara — Yvonne
Dignity. Yvonne spoke of photo display on view at Senior Center.
It will also be on view at the Mall, banks and New West Fest. Will
invite youth to January breakfast where they will be honored for
making a difference in seniors' lives.
Florence has obtained a grant from 1st National Bank which will
help to defray expenses for a booth at New West Fest.
Independence. Working on job fair and funding for senior service.
The Older Americans' Act has not as yet been renewed.
- Self-fulfillment. Pathways printing lists of resources for older
people. The principle states older people are entitled access to
spritual, educational and cultural information.
E. Older American Month. (May)
- Alyce — Senior Center held a dinner dance with barn dance theme.
- SOAP production a huge success.
- Election for new Senior Center Council member currently being
held.
- Senior Art Show — exhibit in Senior Center lobby
F. Senior Network Luncheon PVHS — Erik
PVHS — April meeting cancelled — no report.
Network luncheon meeting held on April 22. Atchley (NAROPA)
Institute will be guest speaker. Mailing list available only at the
luncheon. Flyer to be mailed soon, regarding luncheon and Web
site information. Invitations will be mailed in August. SAB and
OOA members will be asked to be facilitators at tables. Next
meeting June 17 at 10 AM (Senior Center).
G. City Budget
Marjorie sent a letter to John Fischbach regarding SAB — priorities
for City budgetwhich stressed Affordable Housing (more funds)
and Dial -a -Ride (more funds).
H.. Seminar — "Strengthening Board Effectiveness" attended by Barbara, Kay
and Florence. Speaker John Carver, stressed details for further efficiency
and interaction with City Council. Marjorie suggested we invite the
Mayor to a meeting so we could get his views on one to one liaisons with
the Board.
H. Liaisons
Aspen Club — Jill thanks Senior Center for its cooperation at Aspen
Club affairs, which took place at the center.
OOA — Kay stated county needs a statement on Web Site about
Affordable Housing. Also that organization needs more state
funds.
TRIAD — Fran
200 wallet sized File of Life kits received to be sold for an as yet,
undetermined amount. Money to be used to purchase more kits.
Latimer County TRIAD open house May 15 for Thompson Valley
SALT — Next meeting May 21 at RLDS (220 East Oak St.).

Legislature — Jim
House Bill 1166 is now on Governor's desk
VIII. New Business
A. George doing research and analysis on seniors in Larimer County.
B. New SAB Applicants
Marjorie has reviewed twelve applications submitted. Three seats
available plus one Senior Center Council appointee.
IX. Other Business
A. City Line — Members given detailed information.
Barbara discussed this. SAB voted to continue to be included. We are to
read this and will discuss it at June meeting. Each member will be allotted
sections for future review.
B. New West Fest — Barbara
Board voted to share a booth with other agencies if acceptable by them.
We'll need all members to share taking charge of this.
