I. CALL TO ORDER -- The meeting was called to. order by the
Chair, Kay Rios. Everyone introduced themselves.
II. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION
1. Allison Grimes, head of the committee of 'Aged and
Disabled Concerns' of the Fort Collins Rotary Club, asked the
Board to help them identify seniors' needs. They are inter-
ested in county -wide projects.
Marjorie suggested the Board consider projects and get
back to her, as SAB has a working committee.
2. Eddie Jo Yost, of Choice, introduced the new director
Richard Young -Hutchins, and explained the organization's
structural and funding changes as they separate from Neighbor
to Neighbor.
3. Barbara Schoenberger, using AARP material, gave a
presentation about improving community awareness and sensi-
tivity to senior needs. A video was viewed and four local
seniors spoke to the reasons they chose this city in which to
stay, or to come to for retirement, citing more positives
than negatives.
Barbara asked the Board if there was an interest in
buying and using this material in Fort Collins, possibly
during outreach meetings. During discussion it was generally
agreed that it is very useful material, but indecision about
whether SAB is the group to use it. No action taken.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES -- The July minutes were corrected
to use the word "disseminate" in addition to "collect" (data)
in V. 4. Minutes were then approved as corrected.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
A. Review of 1993 goals -- Marjorie asked boardmembers
to review board goals for the September meeting.
B. CityLine -- no report.
C. New West Fest Booth -- The Chair asked for, and got,
volunteer commitments for 'manning' our booth during the Fest.
D. Veterinary Concerns -- Kay reported that the Community
Fund is still interested and working on funding its segments.
E. Paint-A-Thon -- Barbara reported that the applicants'
houses not accepted for painting were referred to other groups
but apparently were not done. Among discussion suggestions
were to alert sponsors for an earlier start to get more teams
involved as need is growing. Yvonne volunteered to call and
report back to-SAB.
F. Building Team Committees -- Marjorie asked for verifi-
cation re members' committee preferences. New Member Stan
Ulrich requested to be on the Library -Media and Sculpture -
Art Committees. Larry H. agreed to the same.
At Kay's request, Barbara updated the board re new
senior center/building team. Only committees will meet from
now on. Building Team will participate in the groundbreaking
ceremonies, hosted by Friends of the Senior Center approxi-
mately October 1st.
V. NEW BUSINESS
A. Service Organization reports:
1. Aspen Club -- No report.
2. OOA -- Kay met with OOA director yesterday. I&R was
discussed, among other things. Stan plans to attend their
board meeting, which occurs the day after the SAB meeting.
No SAB member has received a survey from OOA.
3. Seniors Airborne -- Kay,reported the program is to
run the last Friday of each month at 9:00 a.m.
4. Friends of Sr. Center -- Barbara mentioned upcoming
fundraisers. She explained the gift catalog which lists the
things the center will need, and for which the Friends are
raising money.
5. Senior Center Council -- Larry H. reported there are
new officers.
B. Outreach Meetings -- Kay will confirm an October meeting
at Collinwood.
VI. OTHER BUSINESS
A. Paratransit: Using Marjorie's comments prepared for the
City Council work session of 8/10/93, and Wayne's suggestions,
Kay will draft a letter to City Council. She will bring it to
the next SAB meeting for further input about our concerns for
future paratransit system(s).
B. Marjorie reported that the Commission on Disabilities
has offered to tell the board about their citizen training
program to help more people use public transportation. Yvonne
will contact ADA for clarification.
