Call Meeting to Order: Meeting was called to order at 2:05 p.m. 2. Citizen Participation: None 3. Correspondence: • Notice from AARP announcing a "Stay Smart/Stay Well" program which will be held Thursday Oct. 18s' from 8am to 2pm at the Sr. Center. • Dept of Human Rights — Multicultural Community Retreat Nov. 8 & 9 at the Stanley Hotel. • Note from Marjorie McTaggart thanking the Senior Advisory Board for her nomination for the Marcile N. Wood Award. • Notices from City informing the Senior Advisory Board that Eric Margolis, and George Kress terms are expiring. • A letter from the Mayor on senior issues was read. 4. Approval of Minutes: Motion was made by Maxine Yankey to approve minutes, Florence Williams second the motion. 5. New Business: A. NRPA visit — October 2, 2001will be visiting the Senior Center 12:00pm to 3 p.m. will be here for lunch and tour of center. Barbara asked for a volunteer from the SAB to be here to answer questions. Maxine and John volunteered. B. Police Coverage- Maxine Yankey had an incident in her neighborhood. Spoke with Policemen about situation only to find that there is no such thing as a neighborhood policeman. John suggested that a letter be written to the Police Department explaining how important it is for patrolling during daytime hours. John volunteered to write the letter. Eric suggested that we invite them as a guest speaker to the Senior Advisory Board. 5. Old Business A. Marcile Wood Award - Thanks to John and George for submitting the application. B. Bridging the Gap Luncheon — Sept. 28s' people should be here at 1 Oa.m. and will be given assignments at that time. C. NewWestFest Booth follow up- John apologized for not getting the gong there. Thanks to Eric and Kristen for organizing the NewWestFest Booth. D. City Line Status — No calls E. Japanese visitors - John reported on the visit and lunch. F. Response to the Mayor's Letter: John will respond asking him for better communications. Everyone agreed with the suggestions that the Mayor gave. Barbara suggested the Elder Care Network would be a good resource. 6. Other Business Barbara explained budget printed in the Coloradoan. John said that he has never received a copy of budget that the Senior Advisory Board was asked to comment on. 7. Liaison Reports A. Transportation — Florence Williams reported that the new Transportation Plan was presented. The new Transit Center will open Oct. 4, 2001. The following items and dates are to be voted on by the City Council: • Future I-25 corridor development — November • East Mulberry corridor — June 2002 • Truck By -Pass study results are due to City Council in December • Traffic Circles (roundabouts) — City Council approved standards, then City Staff will make judgement decisions concerning intersections etc. Council will make final approval. • CSU Transit Center design to be completed winter of 2001, construction will begin summer 2002 and should be completed and running by fall 2002 semester. B. OOA — Sub committee to work on next years job fair. Northern Hotel redevelopment as Senior Housing is 3 months ahead of schedule. C. VOA - Julie Hartman has new position as RSVP Director. Linda Ellis has resigned as VOA Executive Director of Latimer County. They will not fill position. They have located to new office. D. Senior Center — Maxine Yankey reported that Grandparents Day was a huge success. E. Aspen Club — Eileen reported the Aspen Club is holding a caregiver series in October. F. AARP - Jim reported that AARP is beginning to organize input on legislation issues. G. Foundation on Aging — no report H. Ombudsman — Florence reported on several medical issues. I.
