I. Call Meeting to Order:
Meeting was called to order at 2:04 p.m. by Chair, John Roberts.
II. Attendance
It was noted that member, Flo Williams, was recovering from cataract surgery. The
Board wishes her a speedy recovery.
III. Presentation by Larimer County Health Department regarding the Second Hand
Smoke Policy Proposal: Nancy Grove, Larimer County Health Department, gave a

with the nominee from the SAB, Dean Miller. Dean was nominated in the
senior category. Dean Miller has been a positive influence on both the youth
and the seniors in the Fort Collins area for more than 50 years. He has
volunteered for the Senior Advisory Board, Larimer County Office of Aging
and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program school tutoring program.
• Marcile Wood Award Nomination:
Jim Downey will write the nomination for the Senior Advisory Board. Jo
Thompson has been recommended for the nomination due to her significant
work for women's rights.
VIII. Liaison Reports:
• Larimer County Senior Network — Mike Buderus reported that the speaker on
May 10 is Jim Riesberg, discussing spirituality and aging.
• Aspen Club — Aspen Club and Senior Center applied for a grant through the
Robert Woods Johnson Foundation. Of the 500 applicants, twenty-seven have
been chosen to take the next step in process. The Aspen Club/City of Fort
Collins — CLRS application is one of that twenty-seven. This grant would
provide a million dollars over a period of four years.
• Commission on the Status of Women — Dianne Heath attended the recent
meeting of the Commission. The Commission is interested in putting "Lucy
Booths" at locations such as the Senior Center to get input about women's
issues. The Commission was not aware of many of the programs or services
at the Senior Center. Dianne stated that older women in this community are
invisible and this needs to be addressed.
• Office on Aging — Dean Miller attended the most recent meeting of OOA and
reported that Katy Mason had been assigned to manage the Caregiver
program.
• SOAP — Maxine Yankey reported that the annual SOAP spring show went
very well with a write up and pictures in the Coloradoan.
• Senior Center — The annual Arts & Crafts Show is on display at the Senior
Center.
• AARP — Jim Downey reported that the next meeting of AARP will be held at
the Senior Center on Thursday, May 16`s and will feature a program about
Glen Miller.
■ TRIAD — The Larimer County TRIAD will be sending Jim minutes from all
the meetings.
■ Older Americans Month — Barbara Schoenberger reported that several events
were scheduled to commemorate Older Americans Month. Included was the
Larimer County Senior Job Fair which will be held at the Senior Center and
will feature 25 employers. On that same day Bob Swerer Sr. and Bob Swerer
Jr., both of Fort Collins, will be premiering their film, "Alaska — Off the
Beaten Path" from 7pm to 9pm. Tickets are $6.00. On Saturday, June 1st, the
Senior Center will be sponsoring "Family Fitness Day" The event will be
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There is no charge for this event. Included will be
exhibitors, demonstrations, and hands-on activities for the entire family.
• Mayor Ray Martinez reminded the Board as City Council liaison with the
SAB, that he is always available.
