The event that seemed to give the most problems was ordering without speaking. It was decided that more people would have been at the event if it began earlier in the day. Next year we will start earlier and try to get area in the shade. We will also add the. contributors to the invitation list for next year's breakfast. Thoughts for next year's event are: Have a child size wheel chair available; more tables and chairs available; drinking water avail- able; should we orient it more to children next year; have more publicity for simulation. COD Minutes Page 2 Mayor's Award Breakfast All commission members should be at the breakfast at 6:00 a.m.. Shirley passed out pick up lists for the donated food. Nancy Jackson will pick up the Polaroid at the library to take pictures of the reci- pients. The Square has a slide projector but need another in case of malfunctions. Debra Kaestner will bring a slide stand, another slide projector, and an extension cord. Arne will narrate the presentation. It should last about 15 minutes. The program will start at 7:30 a.m.. Arne asked for the addition of Best Western University Motor Inn to the donors list. There will publicity for all contributors and award reci- pients after the breakfast. Thank you letters will be sent to all con- tributors. The same guest book as last year will be used. Helen will type name tags after Debra Kaestner gets the list in order. Shirley will call and see if the Forum has table clothes. Nancy Jackson will bring a punch bowl for the orange juice. Several members volunteered to bring ice. Carol said that she would try to find someone willing to "sign" for the breakfast. Debbie Zeigler said that she would bring trash bags. Discussion was held on the fact that the Commission does not have any money budgeted for their use. It was decided that we would look into getting the City to fund the Mayor's Awards breakfast, instead of using donations. If this could happen, more time could be spent on the program itself, rather than soliciting for food. Members questioned how to involve the general public at the award's breakfast. Correspondence from the September and October meeting was discussed. Debra Kaestner talked about an access ramp for 209 E. Plum, and the Mar- riott Hotel. Nancy Jackson was concerned by the fact that the day care center was restricted from having handicapped children and said that she would call Sharon Chavez of the Social Services Department and find out why they would be restricted. Jim Aldrich, Marriott Hotel, is trying to find out who is responsible for the fact that the handicap stall was never put in. He is checking with the contractor and will have it fixed. Two locations that need further checking - SW corner of Remington and Laurel has curb cut with "a step" - Poudre Valley Memorial Hospital, third floor, women's bathroom - Subway Shop at Lemay & Riverside. NEW BUSINESS Debra talked to John Daggett with Transfort and Care -A -Van. He is per- forming an audit and feels that he never gets any feed back on the ser- vices they render. He asked that the commission give him their thoughts. All commission members said they would call right away and express their dissatisfaction. COD Minutes Page 3 Carol Rice went to the meeting Development Services had for Boards and Commissions chair people. She felt that it was very worthwhile and enjoyed hearing other Boards and Commissions problems and thoughts. She hopes that it will accomplish a lot for the COD. Carol also expressed concern over Mr. Jerry Getlin, who appeared before the Commission at last months meeting. She felt that he left the meeting completely dissatisfied and questioned whether the COD should write him a letter explaining alternatives in shopping and getting around in the city as a handicapped citizen. Discussion ended with Carol volunteering to draft a letter for the commission to look at after the breakfast. Carol had also visited the Beaver Boardwalk in Rocky Mountain National Park and said that it was very nice and recommended it to all. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, D Kaestner, Staff Liaison Carol Rice, Co -Chairman
