Room MEMBERS PRESENT: Nancy Jackson Gregory Funk Roy Beauchamp Mike Wilson Lori Gehricke Heather Heafer Shirley Reichenbach Angela Byrne Mark Fetter Arne Andersen Jeanne Morris MEMBERS ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Debbie Zeigler The minutes of the August 13th meeting were unanimously approved. OLD BUSINESS The Mayor's Awards will be in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, October 2, 1990 at 6:00 p.m. with a reception following. The nominations and selection committee consists of Arne, Lori and Heather each took home copies of the nominees and will meet this week to choose the recipients. Arne Andersen will introduce the recipients at the Council meeting. Arne suggested the executive team meet on or about October 1 to make sure everything is in order. Debbie will bring name tags to the reception. Debbie called Care -A -Van and scheduled their services for the night of October 2nd. Each person needing transportation should call and make their reservation. Arne reported that there was no snow removal seminar meeting this month. Shirley complimented him on the cover letter he wrote. The letter will be sent out to snow removal contractors. Debra has their addresses. Arne's committee is still working on the press release. A piece of paper was sent around. People were supposed to copy addresses of businesses that provide good access and businesses that provide bad accessibility. Pictures will be taken of these places for the program. Mini -Mart on N. College at Willox was listed as bad. PVH, Larimer Community Services Center, the Library and the new Safeway were listed as good accessibility. Shirley had talked to a service organization that is interested in seeing the slides once the program is ready. COD Minutes September 10, 1990 Page 2 NEW BUSINESS Jeanne said she had been asked to be on the building committee for the Senior Citizen Center. She said this is not a problem if it is a night meeting, but if it is a day meeting she will have to decline. She talked to Mark Fetter later and asked if he would be interested. Mark will let us know. Nancy asked that the Commission write a letter supporting option #1 of the HUD requirements. Debbie will write a letter if she receives the draft information by the September 13th deadline. Debbie informed the Board there may be an appeal to reduce the number of handicap units in an apartment complex. She won't know until the 20th of September and will let COD know right away. Arne Andersen said he would be able to bring information that DRS has compiled to that meeting. Shirley said she got a fact sheet from NOD regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act and asked that the following numbers be printed in the minutes. The building plan review committee will meet tomorrow, September llth at 10:00 a.m. in the conference room at 281 N. College. COD Minutes September 10, 1990 Page 3 Tickler File - Marriott - Work has been finished but needs inspection. 281 Ramp - Mike said the texture is good for the blind. Shirley said she likes the ramp and feels it will work well. Larimer County Courthouse - Shirley didn't get the letter drafted yet but is working on it. Several problems cited: No braille signage or regular signage to direct to offices, handicap facilities or elevators; Handicap parking space location, identification and size. Blevins - New principal on board. Doesn't know anything about needing a ramp. Will call Jeanne back when he finds something out. Phar-Mor - City talked with Phar-Mor and said they would be no problems with an administrative change the parking and striping. Post Office - New ramp on the northwest corner in the public right of way. It is very steep and dangerous. Debbie called Dave stringer in Engineering. He said no permit was issued and he will check into it. PVH - Mark will check to see that temporary ramp has not been tampered with because of relocation of fence. The Square - Asphalt has been repaired by the ramp. Dr. Abbey's office - Basement doesn't need to be accessible. Lab in the basement. _ 2102 S. Lemay - Angela said her church has four handicap parking spaces and they aren't wide enough. She talked to the Pastor and he assured her they are being worked on. She also went around the church with the Pastor's wife and told her about the accessibility problems the church has. She asked that COD write a letter asking for compliance. Debbie suggested that Angela write the letter and bring it to her for typing. Nancy Jackson suggested we explain what the COD is in the letter and ask if they would like a member of COD to come by for a consultation or ask them to visit one of our meeting. The Paster and his wife sound like they are very willing to help. Everyone agreed. 3517 S. Mason - South Mesa Veterinary Hospital - Door swings over landing and makes it impossible for a wheel chair to sit on landing and open the door.
