on track:
1.
Transportation/Dial-A-Ride — Jeanette Namuth and Don Wells will contact
officials at PVH to get an update on the issue discussed with them earlier in
the year to have a shuttle service from PVH to the Harmony Medical Center,
bus service to the Harmony Center, or some arrangement with
Transfort/Dial-A-Ride to accommodate transit dependent individuals to the
Harmony Center for service. Additionally, Barbara Schoenberger reminded
the Board members that it was important that they remain vigilant so that
transportation services for the elderly were maintained.

office on August 10, 2005. Heather seconded the motion, the motion
carried.

b. Chili Cook -Off is Oct. 15th
c. Craft Fair is Nov. 25th and 261h.
4.
Communication - Marjorie McTaggart reported Channel 27 (government
channel) has produced a pilot program called "Life Goes On". If sponsors
can be found it will become a regular monthly show. The "Fort Collins
Forum" has a senior section every other month. However, it may be
doomed because of advertisers dropping out.
B. Education on Aging
Jeanette Namuth reported to the Senior Advisory Board on "The Savvy Senior" by
Miller. Dean Miller recommended the book to Jeanette because the book was recently
written by a local author, and he thought it would be very interesting program for the
board. However, Jeanette reported that she was very disappointed. There was a lot of
information about issues for aging adults but much of the information was well known to
the members. The book included information about AARP including their services, Area
Agency on Aging, National Transport Hot Line (which offers discounts for seniors), and
many others. Jeanette purchased the book and has donated it to the Senior Center
Library/Media Center where it will be available for use.
C. BOB (Building on Basics) - Bud Herin reported that the SAB is still pushing for the
expansion of the Senior Center. The amount submitted for the expansion was $8 million.
However, the Council is considering reducing the amount to $1 million to $4 million.
Mayor Doug Hutchinson reported that the Council has asked staff to report that if the full
amount of the request is not recommended, would this reduce their ability to do a good
job. If that is the case, then the Council may make adjustments by eliminating the
project, or the Council may decide to adjust the amount recommended. Some discussion
has been had about the possibilities of securing grant funds to match the amount included
in BOB. This is only a possibility if the Senior Center expansion is included in the
proposal, and if the proposal is passed by the citizens in the November election. Barbara
Schoenberger reported that the Recreation administration has developed some
information for Council indicating that a reduction in monies would result in a smaller,
stand alone facility. However, the facility will continue to have a primary focus on
wellness and fitness.
D. Bridging the Gan - Jeanette Namuth announced that the meeting will be held on
September 30, 2005 at the Lincoln Center with a salad luncheon. Glenn Pearson will
speak on Universal Health Care.
E. Tenth Anniversary Celebration/Senior Center -All Board was asked to comment on
the recent celebration. Board members reported that the event was very well
attended and those that attended enjoyed the event. Peggy McGough reported that
celebrations are planned throughout the year. She also commented on how well the
Senior Center is maintained.
F. Development Review/Public Hearing Home State Bank (adjacent to the Senior
Center property) — Don Wells, Heather Heafer, and Dean Miller represented the
Senior Advisory Board at the hearing. Don and Dean both testified at the hearing.
They expressed concern about adequacy of parking for the Senior Center and how
this construction may further limit parking. Additionally, there are safety concerns
about additional traffic in the parking lot and entering across the sidewalk to the
Center where pedestrians may be at risk. Also concerned about those that might cut
through the commercial ingress and egress causing more traffic. And, concerns
about the sufficiency of the vehicular ingress and egress were expressed. Others also
testified as to concerns. Don reported that it appeared that approval was a foregone
conclusion and the development was approved as submitted. There will be an
emergency exit from the housing on Evenstar to the Vet Clinic. The bank will
consider some additional signage.
VI. New Business
A. Liaison Reports
1. Dean Miller reported on the Colorado's Governors Conference on
Aging. Dean was a delegate from Larimer County to this conference
which is a preamble to the White House Conference on Aging to be held
in Washington, D.C. this year. Age related issues such as securing
decent jobs and being able to work longer at their jobs was the top
priority. Financial security appears to be a primary concern and the
federal government needs to assist people with this need. However, the
need for economic security was pulled off the table for submission to the
White House Conference. It appeared that the agenda for submission
had been predetermined and when Dean inquired as to the process, he
did not receive an answer. Additionally, he inquired about who was
selected to attend the White House Conference on Aging and how they
were selected and he was not given any information. He was very
disappointed in the manner this conference was conducted.
2. Peggy McGough reminded Board members that the annual Summer
Social for Friends of the Senior Center will be held at the Senior Center
on Thursday, July 281h at 5:30p.m.
3. Outreach Meeting with the Fort Collins Senior Center Council will be
held on September 14t' at 12:00 noon. Lunch will be served. The
regular meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m.
VII. Other Business

B. Sandra Gibson gave Barbara Schoenberger a letter of resignation. Motion was
made by Peggy McGough to accept the resignation with regret. Jeannette
Namuth seconded the motion and the motion carried.

calendar.
Bud Herin thanked the Mayor for attending the meeting. The Mayor said that he plans on
