Fischbach, City Manager From: Phil Murphy, Natural Resources Advisory Board ChaiKK RE: Transportation Funding Advisory Committee Proposal At its September 16 meeting, the Natural Resources Advisory Board reviewed the findings and proposals of the Transportation Funding Advisory Committee (TFAC), including: 1) an incremental sales tax of $0.36 for implementation of the Transit Development Plan, funding for a new traffic control system, and other transportation operational needs; 2) a combination of street cutlinspection fees and a reallocation of $2.25 million in the City's general fund to provide for transportation maintenance needs, including pavement management, parking facilities, and other needs in Streets, Traffic, and Engineering. The Board agreed to endorse the .36 cent sales tax and the reallocation of $2.25 million from the General Fund to support transportation, provided that the Choice Streets System that will be coming before Council on October 6 is implemented. Among other things, the Choice Streets System will implement street cut and inspection fees proposed by the TFAC. The Board supports these funding proposals as a viable way to meet the unfunded needs in Transportation in our city. The benefits to Fort Collins and its citizens, in terms of mobility, health and safety, congestion management, clean air, appearance of the community, and economic vitality are necessary and well worth the investment that has been recommended by the TFAC. We urge the Council to implement the TFAC recommendations in a timely manner. 281 N. College Ave. • P.O. Box 580 • Fort Collins, CO 80522-0580 • (970) 221-6600 • FAX (970) 224-6177
