ISSUE: Total lineal feet of exit width required.
AFFECTED PROPERTY: 215 E. Foothills Parkway - Foothills Fashion Mall
OWNER: Everwest
APPELLANT: Vaught Frye Architects
BACKGROUND:
The appellant is requesting a reduction in total exit width as specified in
the City Building Code, Section 3303.(b). Based on the total gross leas-
able area in the proposed expanded mall, the required exit width is com-
puted at 132 feet. The total exit width proposed for the renovated mall is
109 feet. The additional exit width would likely require installation of a
new main entrance.

ISSUES FOR DECISION:
No specific hardship or rationale for the request was submitted other than
the owner apparently feels that based on agreed improvements in the exist-
ing mail, including improving smoke removal systems and standpipes, they
have provided sufficient trade-offs.
The Board must make findings of fact as to whether or
justified and provides equivalent life safety and fire
intent and purpose of the City Building Code.
