Business:
1. Policy Agenda Issues to be worked on by the COSW.
➢ Barb suggested the commission take action on finding information about
pay and job opportunities for women. The information would then be put
out to educate the community via, soapboxes, meetings, etc. Focus would
be on statistics and using them to give people awareness. This would be
"quick and easy" to maintain. Working Title: Women &Work.
➢ Violence Against Women —Can the Coloradoan do something on this?
Action would be working with the Police so groups could invite them to
their meeting.
➢ Resource Directory for Women: Work with First Call/211; Women's
Programs.
➢ Discussion about the need to educate the community about the needs of the
poor in FC. Will need Real Numbers. Personalize the numbers by stories.
➢ How political can the commission be? Get candidates to discuss women's
issues. Work with League of Women Voters — create questions for the
candidates.
➢ Suggestion was made that the top areas be divided up for subgroups to
investigate/research.
Penny moved to divide the issues so subgroups can work on specific
areas, Beth seconded... passed unanimously.
Discussion: Penny said she could send out the information to others
who were not here. Barb said that there should be a set format of
questions to guide everyone in gathering data efficiently. It was
suggested each subgroup create questions then share questions with the
entire group. There should be progress reports via email or at the next
meeting. Use the questions to guide the research. Commission will
split up into two groups to further create questions and do research.
Questions the commission came up with:
1. Economic Vitality: Where do women exist in employment?
What are the wage ranges that accompany the jobs?
2. Public Health and Safety: What obstacles do women face for
acquiring a safe living environment?
ACTION: Penny —get the minutes out. Highlight action items so
everyone can decide which area they want to work on. Let Penny
know. Penny will let everyone know which group they are in.
Create questions within your subgroup about your area. Share your
questions with your group. Group will decide on fmal questions.
Final questions will be shared at the next meeting. Alison will share
by e-mail her model for looking at issues.
