2004 Work Plan
The following work plan has been developed by the Library Board for the 2004
calendar year. The Library Board plans to focus on the following:
x Explore options for providing key library services in underserved
sectors of the City (e.g. SE sector). This will involve examining
plans put forth by the Board and staff regarding opportunities to
partner with other community agencies, or other possible ways to
ensure that all areas of the City are well served by the Library.
x Examine funding models and philosophies from other Library
systems across the country. The Board will explore creative
financing models for libraries from across the country in an effort to
create opportunities to expand the Library system as needed.
x Library Support Organizations —The Board will partner with the
Friends of the Library and the Library Trust to further enhance the
Library, and coordinate activities and goals.
x Emerging Library Trends —The Library Board has learned about
numerous national issues that affect libraries, and also are working
with staff to ensure that the local library system is aware and
proactive in dealing with these issues.
x Continue to learn about the functioning of the Library system. The
Board will receive presentations from library staff from various
departments so the Board is current on the functioning of the
Library.
The goal of the Library Board continues to be that of making Library services
available to the public at acceptable levels. This involves expanded library space
within the system, as well as additional funding for 0&M. As possibilities to meet
these goals arise throughout the year, the Board will examine those proposals and
advise Council as needed.
