Call to Order — (3:07p.m.) Ayleen Bums H. Consideration of agenda - Jack Steele mentioned that he had some questions regarding the By-laws (e.g. attendance and quorum) that should be addressed at the next meeting. III. Consideration of Minutes of March 25, 2004 The board made two grammatical changes to the minutes. Motion to accept minutes as amended — Loren Hooper Second — Ann Wilmsen Abstain — Sue Beck-Ferkiss Approve — Jack Steele, Jon Wilmsen, Ayleen Bums IV. Welcome New Board Member — Ayleen Burns and the board welcomed new board member, Sue Beck-Ferkiss. The Board members introduced themselves. V. Review of Past Fort Fund Events NICPA Powwow - Jack Steele — 300+ people, banner hung, but had a difficult time getting into event. Ice Skating Club of FC, Ice Fest - Ayleen Bums— no printed material, so no logo. Brent is working closely with the Museum staff to coTTlete "A Toast to Beer: Fort Collins Brewing Experience" which opens on June 18 . "Tricking Fish" opened on May 4`h in the downstairs gallery. "The Visionary Art of William Hosack" closed on May 10`h. The Museum co -hosted the Preservation Month dinner with the Heritage Network in the Museum's Heritage Courtyard on May 15`h. Fort Fund awarded the Museum $9,600 towards the 2004/2005 exhibition programming season. The Franz -Smith cabin project is underway with completion anticipated in mid August. The public can monitor the progress of the construction on the Museum's website www.fcizov.com/museum. What is the Role of the Fort Collins Museum in the Community? The Fort Collins Museum is a vital institution for preserving memory, sustaining culture, and creating identity. The Museum helps equip us to understand each other and ourselves. It is this understanding that animates our efforts to promote civic engagement and build community. *Providing education * Preserving memory *Sustaining culture * creating identity *Building community through cultural heritage, the benchmarks of which include: -traditions -belief systems -ideas -language -institutions -artifacts -architectural structures —events 2. How does the Museum meet its Role in the Community? The Museum fulfills community roles through exhibitions, programs, community resources, and professional responsibilities. Following is just a sample of the many opportunities provided by the Museum. • Poudre School District (PSD) Second Grade learning tours • PSD Fourth Grade Rendezvous on Colorado History • Providing tours for visitors to the Museum (over 37,000 visitors per year) • Providing education internships for CSU, Front Range, and PSD students • Opportunities for historic research by scholars and the general public • Regularly changing exhibits on many different areas of public historical interests • Sponsoring events (such as the Native American Music Festival, Fort Collins Historical Society and Colorado Archaeological Society meetings.) • Utilizing its volunteers for many roles • Economic benefit for the City 3. What is the Direction the Community would like to seethe Museum take in the future? By means of Visitor Surveys (both on- and off -site) and input from the Museum Advisory Council, the Cultural Resources Board, and the Poudre School District (all of which represent a wide Community mix), the Museum has developed a good understanding of what the Community wants from the Museum.
