2005 WORK PLAN
The Board agreed to focus on the following in2005:
a) Building on Basics
b) Senior Center Name and 10'h Anniversary Celebration
c) Transportation Issues for seniors
L OUTREACH
A. Schedule quarterly off -site meetings at a location where older adults live or
congregate so that the Board can get information about issues, concerns, ideas
that the constituency may have. The Board will also inform older adults at
these sessions about the activities of the SAB.
B. Participate in community activities that impact and/or involve older adults to
support agencies and organizations that provide service for older adults, get
input regarding senior needs, and provide education regarding the Senior
Advisory Board and its mission. These events may include:
1. Friends of the Senior Center events including the Sundance Bluegrass
Festival and Chili Cook -Off
2. Bridging the Gap Network Luncheon
3. Senior Center 10t' Anniversary celebration
C. Develop relationships with other boards and commissions, organizations and
agencies that deal with areas important to aging citizens. Among these will
be:
1. Affordable Housing Board
2. Commission on Disability
3. Human Relations Commission
4. Commission on Status of Women
5. Transportation Board
6. Senior Council
7. Office on Aging
IL ADVOCACY
A. Actively support B.O.B. tax initiative and work to include the expansion of
the Senior Center in the package.
B. Work with the Transportation Board to keep transportation services available
for older adults, to work for transportation services to all primary parts of the
community and to provide input on other transportation issues that may
impact older adults.
C. Support and participate in fund raising activities for the Fort Collins Senior
Center.
III. COMMUNICATION
A. Utilize many media sources to inform seniors about available resources. Also
use these sources to educate the community about senior needs and issues.
Highlight the contributions and achievements of older adults.
1. Coloradoan, Senior Voice, Fort Collins Forum; Radio; Local
Television (Comcast?)
2. Recruit and maintain a core of writers for media presentations.
3. Explore possibility of having an article in the Utility Bill that lists
programs that provide assistance to seniors
B. Maintain effective communications with the City Council, the
Mayor and the City Manager.
1. Quarterly meetings with the Mayor, the SAB liaison, and the City
Manager to give and receive information regarding Senior issues
2. Encourage SAB members to meet as needed with their City Council
member to present senior issues.
C. Attend all City Council meetings where senior issues are being discussed.
Encourage SAB members to address Council during public
participation segments of Council meetings.
IV. COORDINATION/EDUCATION/FACILITATION
A. Co -host the Bridging the Gap Senior Network event annually with the Larimer
County Office On Aging and the City of Loveland Senior Advisory Board to
encourage networking and cooperation among agencies, businesses and
organizations that service aging adults.
B. Host a meeting with the City Council members annually to promote better
communication of issues that may affect seniors.
C. Provide information about aging issues to members of the Senior Advisory
Board.
1. Recruit speakers that will provide insight in to issues, resources, and
other items of interest for aging adults to present for members at SAB
meetings.
2. SAB members will report at meetings from books, reports or articles
that inform about senior issues.
D. Work with the Senior Center Council to promote the Senior Center.
1. Assist the SCC in promoting the 10`h anniversary celebration for the Fort
Collins Senior Center.
2. Continue working with the SCC and the City Council to rename the
Senior Center.
3. Actively begin soliciting new members and participants to the Senior
Center facility and activities.
E. Plan for a broad based forum on multiple topics to be presented on senior
issues in 2006. Some topics to be presented may include:
1. Boomers and Aging
2. Aging issues for all races, couples and same sex partners
3. Fears of aging issues
4. How to be more productive in your older years

V. TRANSPORTATION
A. Continue advocating for public transportation that meets the needs of aging
adults in the community.
1. Key area needing transportation is the PVHS Harmony campus.
2. Full access to the south and east quadrants of the metro area.
3. Advocate for a grid system for public transit.
4. Protect all other alternative transportation including Dial -A -Ride,
SAINT, Smart Trips.
5. Facilitate a `Bridging the Gap" meeting with all agencies that provide
transportation for seniors to develop networking and identification of
needs within our community (consider County -wide?).
B. Identify and resolve dangerous intersections for seniors.
1. Work with City departments to resolve these dangers as needed.
2. Work with City and County law enforcement to identify and resolve
dangers.
