2005 WORK PLAN
Human Relations Commission
1. Work on Human Relations topics that arise in 2005.
2. Improve two-way communication with citizens, council and other local organizations.
3. Reassess vision and mission of the Human Relations Commission in order to better serve the
Community.
4. Provide support for Committee work shown below:
Educational Outreach Committee
Promote HRC's vision and mission to the local community
Heighten awareness to create a better understanding of issues regarding specific cultural,
ethnic, racial, gender, age, disability or diversity specific issues through the use of forums,
talk shows, articles, speakers bureau or other communication venues.
Collaborate and continue to develop liaisons with other organizations to present cultural,
educational activities to the Fort Collins community.
Media and Community Recognition Committee
• Foster cooperative relations with local media regarding HRC's vision, mission and
consequent events and activities.
• Draft necessary articles that support the work of the HRC.
• Solicit nominees, select award winners, and honor them at the 22"a Annual Fort Collins
Human Relations Award Breakfast.
Government Relations Committee
• Along with all HRC members, serve in the Citizen Liaisons Program to assist citizens in
filing complaints with Fort Collins Police Services
• Maintain a list of interpreters to assist with translation in filing complaints.
• Coordinate with Police Services to train people in the Citizen Liaison program and to allow
effective utilization of the program within the complaint process.
• Monitor City Council agendas and attend meetings as appropriate.
• Attend Citizen Review Board meetings and provide assistance upon its request.
• Help to educate citizens and recommend actions which promote positive relations among
community members, Fort Collins police Services and the Citizen Review Board.
• Review proposed legislation, policy changes or other governmental action at the federal, state
or local level which may affect human rights in the city and make recommendations
regarding the same.

Continue to monitor, update and analyze board and commissions diversity data.
Research and recommend actions necessary to achieve: equal employment opportunity; equal
housing opportunities; equal public accommodation opportunities and the best possible Fort
Collins government/community relations in all field of government.
Executive Delegation Committee
Provide on -going support to other Human Relations Commission committees as needed.
Determine meeting agendas and guest speakers for all Human Relations Commissions
meetings.
