Renee Lee - Therapy and Recreation Specialist with City
Theater and Arts Experience — Friday, October 15, 5:30-8:00
---sign ups there to indicate interest, in programs, etc.
Her job is to:
Oversee support systems to allow people of all abilites to participate.
Design courses and programs specifically for people with disabilities.
Conduct workgroups for input with respect to usability.
Examples include:
Adaptive sports
Travel Expo
--- she would like to have more information, e.g., Accessible trail heads, etc.
Susan: Why did you choose your field?
Renee: I attended OT at UNC — I started working with the Adaptive Ski program at Winter Park
which set my course. I have been in the community setting for 20 yrs. Boulder, Loveland, and now
Fort Collins.
We were sharing a grant with CSU Community Center for Participation (CCP) that just ended. The
grant was funding a second therapeutic specialist on staff in the department. The City is committed to
keep them on next year. The partnership with CSU was very good, great connectivity with people that
need OT and get it via CSU's CCP. Hoping to keep second full-time therapeutic specialist in the 2006
budget.
The department produced a 12 minute video - Highlights Work and Recreation --- "Recrecation
Works". Would like to show that to the Commission some time in the future..
