Dean Miller Marjorie McTaggart Mike Richardson Bud Herin Jim Downey Don Wells Excused Absence: Eileen Hendee Other Absence: Liaison: Ray Martinez, Mayor Staff: Barbara Schoenberger Karen Bryner L Call Meeting to Order: Chairperson Mike Richardson called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. A quorum was present. One excused absence was Eileen Hendee. II. Approval of Minutes - A motion was made by Bud Herin to accept the minutes as corrected; Don Wells seconded the motion; passed unanimously. III. Correspondence: A. Letter from Darin Atteberry will be discussed later. IV. Old Business A. Bylaws Revision - Mike Richardson - Revised by-laws were submitted to SAB's liaison, Mayor Martinez. B. Name Change Committee - Dianne Heath - Committee will meet July 27`h at 4 p.m. Surveys have been turned in to the Senior Center. Dianne encouraged all Board members to take the surveys to any groups they are meeting with so the committee can get a good feedback as to which direction they should take. C. Report on letter to Interim City Manager - Mike Richardson - A letter was received from Darin Atteberry thanking the SAB for bringing to his attention the request that the City purchase land adjacent to the Senior Center to provide much needed parking. He suggested having a meeting with Marty Heffernan, CLRS Director. Mike Richardson said that he would be willing to set up a meeting with Steve Budner and Marty Heffernan. Jeannette Namuth made a motion for Mike Richardson to follow through with this; Marjorie McTaggart seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. D. Caring Hearts Walk-a-Thon, Saturday, July 17, 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. - Everyone donated $10.00 to purchase the food. Jeannette Namuth and Don Wells will do the shopping. E. Bridging the Gap Network Luncheon - Jim Downey and Jeanette Namuth - September 24`h is the date. Envelopes are stuffed with information on the event and ready to be mailed. F. Follow-up on correspondence to Mayor regarding Dychtwald's book - Dean Miller - The letter has been sent with no response. V. New Business A. City Boards and Commission manual - Minutes Section - Mike Richardson - Pages 17, 18, & 19 in manual. Any time three people meet; it must be posted for the Community Board. Anytime there is a split vote it must be recorded who voted for and who voted against, and state the reasons for dissent. After minutes have been approved the Chairperson and Secretary need to sign. The full name of each person speaking needs to be entered. Tape recordings need to be kept for 2 - 3 months. Executive Session tapes should be destroyed after you are satisfied with what was accomplished. B. Dean Miller Report - Senior Issue - Gave a report on "Exercising Mind and Body: New Insights". C. Form elections committee - The elections committee will be James Downey, Mike Richardson, and Marjorie McTaggart. VI. Liaison reports 1. Dean Miller - Larimer County Office on Aging: ❖ Statewide needs assessment is progressing. No information has been compiled. •A Increases in state auditing and requiring more oversight and monitoring of providers, may not be the best use of scarce money and energy of OOA personnel. ❖ More cuts may be needed in the senior nutrition programs. ❖ Education Committee of the OOA Advisory Council is planning the Legislative Breakfast at 7:30a.m. on September 10`h at the Senior Center. ❖ The 2004/2005 plan for State Senior Service Funding contains one-third less money than the current plan. ❖ Current projections on the 2005 Office on Aging budget contain a 12% reduction. 2. Sandra Gibson - Affordable Housing - Nothing on the agenda concerning seniors right now. 3. Marjorie McTaggart - Publicity - Contacted Craig Campbell, editor of Fort Collins Weekly. Marjorie will get back to him to see if we can get some coverage. 4. Marjorie McTaggart - TRIAD - Copy of latest newsletter covers the Handyman services of Volunteers of America. TRIAD has been trying to get grants to operate. 5. Dianne Heath - Red Cross — Reports that the agency is in need of cash. 6. James Downey - AARP - The local AARP is going to have a conference in October at the Senior Center on identity theft and frauds and scams. The date is October 21, 2004. 7. Bud Herin — The Friends of the Senior Center will host their annual Summer Social on Thursday, July 22. The Senior Center Council is planning to participate in the annual Community Homecoming on October 2 and will have a flatbed truck to carry the Jammers. Executive Board meeting will be July 26"' from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Next Senior Advisory Board meeting will be held on August 11, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at the Fort Collins Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Drive. James Downey and Jeannette Namuth will be excused from the next meeting. Adjournment: Bud Herin made a motion to adjourn Don Wells seconded the motion.
