MEETING MINUTES
April 13, 2000
12:15PM TO 1:30PM
Those present included: Mark Beck, Laura Burnett, Don Fish, Robert Fritz, Romola Fritz,
Mark Kramer, Kathryn Johnson, David Marckres, Robert Palmer, Steve Seefeld, Initha
Stuckey, Lila Vizzard, Susan Williams. Guests: John Kefalas, Northern Colorado Social
Legislation Network Coordinator of the Catholic Charities Northern Archdiocese of
Denver and Karen Wagsvick.
March 30, 2000 minutes, were amended and approved.
Susan Williams announced plans for forming a committee, to request the reinstatement of
funds to the City budget for extended hours when CSU isn't in session. The committee
shall be composed of two members each from the following groups, the Commission on
Disabilities, the Dial -A -Ride Steering Committee and the Northern Colorado Cross
Disability Coalition. Also, there will be two seniors chosen to participate. Susan Williams
will notify the Commission on Disabilities when the meeting is set. Kathryn Johnson and
David Marckres have volunteered to represent the COD.
Lila Vizzard announced that she had not received a single reply to the "Disability Hiring
Survey", which had been sent to the Service Area Managers, Division Heads and
Departments Heads for the city of Fort Collins and that the COD meeting of April 27,
2000 would be her last. Lila's hard work and dedication to the Commission have been
greatly appreciated by all. Don Fish volunteered to follow through on the "Surveys".
John Kefalas gave a brief overview of the group he represents. Their mission is ensuring
social justice by affecting the legislative process. They seek to empower people by
developing leadership skills in them Also, John facilitates at Northern Colorado Cross
Disability Coalition meetings. Laura Burnett works closely with John on issues that effect
several groups.
Kathryn Johnson announced that she has created a Reference Resource Packet, which
contains the ADA requirements for signers for the deaf, for City Council meetings. This
"Packet" will be sent to the Mayor with a cover letter from the NCCDC requesting a
signer.
Initha Stuckey suggested that an endorsement letter from the COD should accompany the
"Packet". The commission approved the suggestion and she volunteered to draft the letter
and present it at the next meeting of the COD for the members' approval.
Our next meeting will be Thursday April 27, 2000 in the CIC Room of City Hall
12:15pm to 1:30pm.
