The meeting was called to order by Nancy Baker, Chairman. The minutes were read and approved
There was a presentation by the Transfort department guests on the Transfort Strategic Operating
Plan, outlining options being considered for the improvement of the city transportation system
over the next ten years. A presentation to City Council will be made soon, followed by sessions
to gain input and feedback from community members.
Nancy told the members that the Annual Report will be due by the end of January. She requested input
as to what items should be included Topics mentioned included:
• The Mayor's Award ceremony
• The change of COD emphasis over the past year to include employment of the handicapped.
• The inclusion of COD information on the city web site.
• The project on handicapped parking. (Rob and Romola will write this section.)
• The visitability project. (Mark will write this section.)
• Altemative formats for written materials for City Council and other meetings.
Nancy requested that members be thinking about other topics and E-mail her any additional ideas.
Mark then reported on his presentation on visitability at a brown bag lunch held by the Colorado Home
Builders, the city manager, and some department heads who deal with construction in the city. He
indicated that he had a very positive response from the members of the association in regards to the
concept of visitability. The city officials also expressed support, as long as there is no cost to the city.
Mark indicated that his next step is to establish a committee of perhaps seven members to plan approaches
for educating the community on the concept. The committee should start meeting during the first quarter
of 2001. The idea that the visitability concept would be presented as a support, not a mandate, was
mentioned as the route most likely to be successful with the home builders. Mark has been invited to
make a presentation at the annual meeting of home builders, which will be attended by about 400 people.
Kathryn reported that she was unable to go to the mobility conference in Colorado Springs but thinks that
there will be another similar conference in the area soon that she should be able to attend She also
indicated a desire to have one COD goal for next year involve pedestrian safety. There is another
community group that is focusing on this, and she hopes to find more about that group's efforts. Nancy
asked Kathryn to head a subcommittee to do the ground work on this issue.
Don announced that this was his last meeting as a member of the COD. The members thanked him for his
contributions during his tenure on the commission, including the chairmanship two years ago and the
writing of last year's annual report.
The next meeting will be on January 11.
Respectfully submitted,
Romola Fritz, Secretary
