REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
June 28, 2001
Council Information Center, City Hall West
Members present: Susan Williams, Paul Ostrof, Jill Lancaster, Ruth Bell Skogerboe, Laura Burnett, Rob
and Romola Fritz, Steve Seefeld.
The meeting was called to order by Laura Burnett, Vice Chairman, at 12:42 p.m. Jill made a motion that
the minutes be approved as presented. Ruth seconded the motion; it passed.
Steve and Rob gave an update on last meeting's motion on disabled parking spaces in the City Hall parking
lot. Haying obtained more complete information since the last COD meeting as to the footage needed for a
disabled parking space, Rob made a motion that we change our recommendation to keeping the existing two
disabled spaces at the west end of the lot and adding one more disabled space by the ramp up to the front
door. Ruth seconded the motion. It passed. Susan moved that the COD write a letter of thanks to the city
for giving the disabled an extra parking space in the City Hall lot. Rob seconded the motion. It carried.
Steve will write a thank you and bring it to the next COD meeting for member approval.
The g roup discussed concerns about the parking ticket referee who reportedly dismisses tickets for
disabled parking space infractions with little or no justification. We discussed inviting him to a future
COD meeting to share our concerns with him.
Steve reported that he had confirmed the reservation for space at the Holiday Inn on October 27 for the
Mayor's Awards event. The subcommittee, consisting of Susan, Laura and Diane, will meet before the
next meeting to do a time line for planning the event.
Laura told the members that the Denver -based Domestic Violence Initiative wants to coordinate with the
Commission on the Status of Women to do a needs assessment for disabled women here in Fort Collins.
After a discussion, COD members indicated a willingness to help but a need to find out more about what
type of information is desired and how it can be obtained, including a mailing list of disabled women. Ruth
also pointed out that abuse can also affect men.
The group discussed concerns that the city council had voted to eliminate two bus routes completely,
leaving citizens in at least the southeast part of the city without any public transportation. Susan asked
Romola to write a letter indicating our disappointment in this decision and asking that the issue be revisited
in two years, especially since the city is growing rapidly in that very area of town. Romola indicated she
would write a draft of such a letter and will bring it to the next meeting for consideration of the full COD
membership.
The meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m, after a motion by Rob, a second by Jill, and approval of the full
membership.
Respectfully submitted,
Romola Fritz
